Ever since I got the 800, I've only been able to do about 120 miles before I find myself standing on the pegs to releive a numb arse. I've always put it down to the seat being quite hard.

When I set off for GOTC for the weekend, I wound up the preload by two full turns to account for the extra weight of the camping gear. (I've never played about with the settings from factory standard before).

Bike handled the weight fine, even when 'making progress' through the twisty bits.:augie

Saturday, we did 200+ miles on a rideout...it was only when we got back that I realised that I hadn't got the usual numb arse - or stood up on the pegs once to try and ease the pain. The difference was amazing.

I've left the pre-load on the higher setting since then - even when just solo with no luggage - and the bike is a lot more comfortable for it.

Try it, it may save you money on a seat modification and a sore arse.:D

Yebbut...

you've got the advantage of legs in a larger size than me. :tears:tears

Might give it a try though, I've got some 2 by 4 around I could nail to me boots...

hi. i noticed the same thing not a sore on the botty with a couple of turns in

I've got a Touratech seat on mine, and it's ok... no more than that. Did three hours on it today, but after about an hour numb bum does set in. It just stays at numb though, doesn't really get painful.

Had expected more from an aftermarket seat, and the guy I bought it from did 8500 miles on it, so maybe I've a soft arse!

Well, it don't exactly click, Greggers just a steady turn with some resistance (clockwise). Enough resistance to make the bendy plastic 'key' look like it's going to break.
I put 2 full turns on...bear in mind I'm 17 stone - so I'd try a bit less initially if you're not a big lardarse like me.:D

Did you play with the damping too?

Aran

Nope, don't like changing too much at once, it can be difficult to suss out which is causing the improvement (or lack of) if yer do.

TBH I think that changing the damping may make very little difference.

Then again, I didn't expect changing the preload to cure a sore arse...so who knows?

Aye - see, the problem, is that I don't know if mine has been adjusted already, The manual gives standard setting as no preload .."turn adjusting screwcounter clockwise as far as it will go..."

it's time for me to start fiddling...

Greg

I turned all my preload off and dropped the yoke 3/4 an inch down the fork today to improve my purchase on tera firma when at a standstill. Certainly helped get my feet down, though the bike is a bit boingy now! Guess I better up the damping...
