Hi to all,

I have a 4 month old 800 with the spoked wheels. It currently has 1400 miles on it.

When washing it today I noticed the centre wheel hubs have paint 'bubbling' around the holes where the spokes are inserted.

Is this normal?

My winter washes consisted of cold water wash off and dry, could this be a cause?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ACF50 corrosion inhibitor is your friend keeping the corrosion at bay!:thumb

It's amazing how quickly these new bikes go 'off' if they're ridden through the winter months!

Hope this helps!

My last one did this. I bought it second hand. First guy only did 4 thou in 2 years on it. He washed it and just parked it. Never dried it off. My current bike is 11 months old and 12 thou mile and no sign of corrosion anywhere. Has been acf 50 coated from new regularly. Always spray it around spoke holes. It for sure works. Still like new. :thumb

Thanks for the replies :thumb

I too use ACF50 ( owned Suzukis in the past and know how quickly an untreated bike can rot)

Will have a closer look tomorrow, and maybe flag it up to the dealer....... Won't hold my breath though :D

Ride it to dealer...

Complain politely (always confuses them)...

Get courtesy bike whilst they fix it...

Ride courtesy bike back a few days later having ridden about lots.

Compliment them on the lovely clean and full valet they gave it (did I forget to mention as for that)

Ride home on bike with nice new wheels on it.

Or go in stroppy, get told to leave it here and find your own way home...

Or when they say tough go to trading standards (never ever seen a BMW dealer do this they are not that stoopid).

I would be pretty sure bmw will replace the parts corroded no problem. For all the miles and age of bike

But unless the new ones are of better quality, he'll be back there again in 4 months. :(

I can't understand how some are corroded and some don't. A friend has over 30 thou on his. Nothing corroded either. I know bmw finish is poor but would think it would last longer than 4 months.
I would be complaining big time

Update

Hi all,

Went over to the chaps at North Oxford BMW who agreed that the paint shouldn't be in that condition and will replace the hubs on warranty.

I have to say I was expecting a bit of an argument, but the service chap was more than helpful. I can fully recommend their customer service :thumb

+1 to BMW :thumby:
