Whilst cleaning the LC on Sunday, lying on the garage floor I noticed that where the side stand sits when lowered a chunk of paint has been chipped from the frame.

This area of the frame is going to be continually abused by putting the side stand down so is it worth repainting?

Thanks

I suspect it's going to rust if you don't treat it with something. Repaint it and then cover it with helicopter tape or something similar...? :nenau

Return to dealer as 'unfit for purpose', disgraceful on a premium priced, around the world, tested over 2,000,000 miles flagship, top selling motorcycle. It wouldn't happen to a car, so why accept it? Stand up for your citizen's rights.

PS Post pictures, as it enables others owners to have something else to look for and worry about.

This is the side stand "stop" when it's down

Why were you lying on the floor cleaning the bike :nenau

Quick dob of hammerite , adjust side stand, bit of tape to cover etc etc or a new frame

You were really on the floor cleaning your bike?

Just dab a bit of grease over it, to stop corrosion

Repainting & tape will keep coming off

Don't worry about it :)

I just don't understand why the don't put a rubber buffer here to protect the frame when the side stand is down.

£1 extra on a £15k bike

Does every bike have this problem? What does yours look like?

it's metal on metal with a huge weight behind it, of course the frigging paint is going to come off. all* bikes are like this :blast

a rubber stop would disintegrate under the pressure, the sidestand would then lock too far forward and the bike would lean too much, and it would wobble.

*that i have seen (disclaimer).

A very restrained answer in my opinion :thumb

well obviously:beerjug:

1. but why paint it in the first place
2. my suzuki had a rubber stop and didn't fall over:barf
3. if you're lying on the garage floor polishing the bash guard it looks unsightly:bounce1

I expect there are many many bikes with this "problem" and the owners can be divided into two seperate camps.

1) Those who's hair has fallen out with worry.
2) And those who don't give a shite.

If you want to polish the bash guard then remove it first, it has screws you know - saves grovelling on the floor like a scruffy pleb.

Doh !

I suppose you undo it standing up

Only takes a minute to unscrew it - one can then polish and buff to a high sheen at one's leisure while drinking a cup of tea - far more civilised than grovelling on the floor like one of the great unwashed don't you know.

Best not look at the feet of the centre stand.
You know, the feet that come into contact with the ground everytime you put the bike on the main stand.

Unless you carry and use the bmw 1200wc centre stand carpet patch
