That colour reminds me of the "Midnight Blue" & silver 1st year CBR600 I had in the 80s. It looked almost black when the sun was in but it was very much a sparkly metallic blue in the full sunshine.

Anyone ever heard of a Kawasaki F11?
It certainly was a new one on me .. American market only apparently.
Quite a nice looking bike with it's distinctive Kawasaki duck tail piece.
He gave me the colour code he wanted and I went ahead and painted it in the correct colour .... Before I started on the clear coats I called and suggested he come take a look "You can either have it looking nice or looking right, sadly you can't have both as the colour is really questionable"
He came down and signed off on the colour I'd painted and that was that

Nah thats a sweet looking 250 its too good to take out for a ride but not to do so would be a waste

Can the matt paint that seems to be popular with manufacturers have gloss lacquer applied directly over it ? As an example, the Tracer GT in the for sale section with its matt blue.

The short answer is yes ...... the mechanics of doing so are a little more complicated on a substrate that's been out in the world / cleaned / silicone sprayed etc.
But it's entirely possible to turn a matt bike gloss ...

Would it be quicker ,easier and get a better finish to just respray the tank all together ?
You are not wrong!
If the rest of the bike matches the quality of the paint, that will be a jaw dropper.
If you really like the blue then it can be done .... but to change the colour to something else more epic and specialist isn't massively more work ...
Cotton Jap
I used to work with Daren about 20 years ago, imagine my surprise when he called in for a chat. He's a bit of a bike collector these days and had just found out what I do now through a mutual friend so came by to ask me about a job!
I don't know the full story as I was so blinded with jealousy but he'd just bought a 1934 Cotton Jap for £250
Now I will say right from the off that if I'd taken possession of this bike I'd have made it mechanically sound and used it as it is, he asked my advice and I told him so. However, he likes things to be shiny and new so he decided to have it restored.

My part in all this ..... restore the tank
To say it was knocked about was an understatement, I pulled out all the dents but it left a surface that was like an un-ironed duvet cover!
I's say 90% of the surface is now filler ... built up over many fine layers. Very time consuming!

It's a 750 in for a scrambler conversion. It's having a ZX10R front end and swing arm. Renthal bars etc etc ....
Of course I'm joking, that's not my workshop .... it's his!
Now thats come up great it looks superb in Black.
Simply stunning.
