I'm refurbing my GS subframe and wondered if I should have it painted or plastic coated. Any advice welcome. Also, can anyone please recommend anyone in Surrey/Hants/W Sussex? Thanks a lot. Patrick

Powder coating is very tough, but be sure to use a powder coater who primes the bare metal with phosphate primer before applying the powder coating.
Not all p/coating firms do this, and that's why you see so many p/coated items where the surface may have been chipped and corrosion has spread under the rest of the coating.
Virtually all mass-produced brackets and small metal items are powder coated directly on to bare metal. They look great until the surface is damaged in any way, then corrosion sets-in. This can go unnoticed for a long time due to the toughness of the coating, but it causes a lot of damage to the underlying metal.

Looking at the OP's address this might only be a help to others. However I use these guys for virtually all of my metal finishing jobs. Their work is top quality and prices so reasonable its hardly more costly than primer and paint. For example will strip and coat an alloy bike wheel for £30. They do a lot of work for bike restorers. They know what to mask and blank-off to avoid coating getting into where it shouldn't..

Another thing. If using a powder coat or low temperature stove enamel, make sure the company uses a protective layer on the bare metal before coating.

CJ Ward use zinc passivate under powder coat and etch primer under stove enamel.

I have just picked up a Yamaha Diversion 900 rear swing arm. It was in a very sorry state but now looks better than new in silver stove. All for £20!! The paint & rustaway wouldnt have been much less! And I'd be doing it again next year.
