I have been looking at painting my bike a different colour. The colour is a BMW motorbike colour I have just found out how much it will cost a litre. £280  That does not include the base £130 :eek:

These prices are not BMW dealer prices. They are distributer prices :yikes

Now dare I ask BMW how much it would cost? :hide

I recently bought a 2010 GSA in the smoke grey.

I wasn't sure about the colour at first...though it's now grown on me...so I asked the dealer how much it would cost to get it sprayed....

...they told me about £500

Hope that helps.

Go to a local paint sprayer. They will be able to match the BMW paint codes no problem and that is what your dealer will do.

A pal of mine did the panels of mine in Biarritz Blue but would charge £150 to a punter as a guide as long as you were to take the panels to him.

Any good paintshop should be able to do it for around this price.

That is about what I was told. I though it was fair for what I wanted done.

That is what I have done. The distributer for the paint is just quoting a higher price than I or he was expecting.

I am not just doing the main coloured panels. I am doing a few other bits as well which require a lot more prep work so the labour will be higher.

Edit to add.

Is Biarritz a metalic? I ask because the one I want is.

Paint Codes etc

http://www.colorrite.com/matrix-step1.cfm?type=2

You can pick up the paint codes here, any body shop should be able to cross reference codes to suit different paint suppliers.

My 58 plate was Nambia Orange (YUK), just removed the panels myself (easy to remove tank cover and beak) and had them done in 2010 Alpine White, paid a local bodyshop £150, cracking job as well.

Bike has been transformed....

You wont need anywhere near a ltr of paint for a few panels, a helpful company will sell paint in tenths of a ltr, two tenths would be more than enough.

I would suggest you try a different "distributor" I can buy half a ltr of mixed paint for about £21 from here www.mkpe.co.uk.

Other posters have talked about a figure of £150 which is a fair price :thumb2 and would include paint and labour, I find it strange that your paintshop has to buy paint in , most bodyshops make there own paint.

Paintman.

£150...

Paintman,
Indeed that £150 in my post was 'job lot' (paint, labour, smile when they took money etc)

I get all my paint from http://www.paints4u.com/default.aspx they are £45.98 a litre for base coat which needs a clear coat or £36.54 a litre for 2K gloss. They don't list bike colours on their site but they do it if you give them a call. I also agree you will need nothing like a litre to paint a GS, you will have paint left from 1/2 a litre never mind 1. Who ever quoted you for the paint has been sniffing too much of their product!

Boxers, the Biarritz Blue is a very slight metallic and is rather handsome on the old girl:D
