Paint worn through beak

After washing the bike yesterday the wind picked up and it started to rain - so out came my new R&G waterproof cover.

The weather cleared up after a couple of hours, so took the cover off and saw that it had already worn through the paint on the front of the beak - must have been the wind moving the cover around

So after a 2200 mile trip around France with not even a scratch I'm feeling very annoyed with myself. Thinking of touching it up - would BMW be the best place to get this or are they better places to go?

First of all, you need to return the cover to R&G as not fit for purpose. Then you need to sue god for creating the wind that made the cover flap around. Under no circumstance accept any blame for not securing said cover properly. Then put in a warranty claim to BMW for not providing a good thick layer of paint and demand a new bike. They may eventually agree to replace the plastic just to make you go away. If all this fails, either buy some touch up paint, or even respray the whole thing to make yours more individual.

My bikes live outside 24/7

I use three covers, a soft none scratch one, then a nylon waterproof one, and over the top goes a heavy duty Wunderlich cover. All totally waterproof ... and if it's at all windy I put a couple of straps round them to stop the chaffing

Oh .... and an old sweat shirt with the arms cut off over the windscreen

Six years outside, 110,000 miles and the paintwork is as good as new in every respect .... but then it is only an F800GS

The only paint worn off is general 'patina' where I've worn it off .... and pleased to have been able to do so

As suggested, take your bike back ... it's not fit for purpose, or at least something isn't

It's happened to me previously...
There was a beak extension/cover available in the for sale section recently, I bought mine from Nippys & on my white beak looks very nice, sort of finishes bike front end off..
It's an easy option...

Yeah, these covers are problems.

Any dirt trapped under them will grind the paint.
I had a Fiat x1/9 that I used for spares. I put a cover on it, and was amazed how much it got damaged.

You need something soft under it, and make sure it can't flap in the wind.

The touratech beak extender looks good, and will most likely hide the worn paint.

Not sure what I'm looking at, but if you mean the black "ridge".........

Try scraping it with your nail, or some polish.

That tiny wee mark on the end ? Some red nail polish will hide that.

I don't get this. Are you saying that although you put a cover on the bike, that moved around as you didn't strap it down securely, and has worn through some paint on the bike, that this is BMW's fault?

Somewhere along the lines my admission that is was my fault and my question about the best place to get some touch-up paint has long been forgotten
