Hi Everyone

While having my HID kit fitted I discovered that the paint on my Touratech cockpit cover had flaked off from the alloy component ... that and EasySushi's recommendation to leave it off so I can get at the bulbs more easily, has left me thinking I will leave it off and remount my GPS on the left bar.

But ... the Touratech cover and the GPS mount have knackered the paint on both windshield stays ('Support' and 'Support F Headlight').

So ... I'm thinking I'll refurbish them (strip, prime and paint).

My bike is an R1200GS Adv, White Aluminium Metalic. I'm wondering what the paint for these parts will be ... and where I'll get it from.

Anyone any ideas?

Hi Voyager,

maybe this will give you a clou: http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/paintcodes/whites.htm

Lots of colours, don't see yours though...

Greetings, Tom.

Cheers Tom

I had a look at that site earlier ... I'm waiting for info from my dealer now.

Hi Gary

Annoying, isn't it?

But I'm thinking that I may abandon the cockpit cover altogether and mount the GPS on the left bar and wire accordingly ... might be a more stable mount too ...

Looks as if I may need a new rear wheel too ... corrosion under the paint ...

if

if your bike is only nov 07 and the wheel needs replacing already get on your hands and knees and check your rear hub underneath

mine had a new wheel a while back because of blistering and now the hub is doing the same

GET every bit of warranty done asap and keep on top of it - you like all of us paid top dollar for our bikes and a two year warranty means exactly that and dont take any crap like oh they all do that

Youbetcha! :thumb2

I am keeping a very close eye on things now, especially since our conversation the other week resulted in a replacment flange ... and now the rear disc brake will be replaced as well.

I'm having a new rider's seat 'coz one of the welded seams is stressed, and I had new heated grips fitted last week 'coz they were coming up to temperature then going cold.

Never had this many problems with a new bike before ... actually, I've never had build quality issues before, ever!

Mind and use a proper ali primer first

Scrape away as much magnesium as you can as it's sh1t alloy that BM use thats what flakes the paint:thumb

Get nitromors and clean back to the bare metal it takes ages but the better you prep the better the job.

Just had mine done

An y paintshop worth there salt could match it for you or get the paint code off your dealer

The finish on the OE bits is a disgrace
