The fairing lowers on my daily ride are falling to bits. I've got a couple of replacements but they have been painted with twin pack paint. I've tried rubbing them down but its a real pain in the arse so i'd like to just flat them down to get them smooth and then paint over them with some form of brush paint :o

Any idea what will cover two pack?

Cracking reply.................

You two rehearsed that one at the East Mids Bash didn't you?

That is one of the funniest things I have seen on this site!!!!

Bloody brilliant!!

what about a nice bit of wallpaper?

if that's too flashy, a roll of anaglypta or woodchip might suit.

Some sort of etch primer might be the way to go. You need to know the make of the two pot paint to know which make of primer to get though.

when i had a r100rt with the fibreglass fairing i took it a door strippers who dipped the lot in the tanks and took the 7 coats of filler and paint off for a reasonable cost but i had to say if it did not work no come back might be worth a look at

I think you'll find nearly any "brushable" paint will go on top of two pack paint, as the name implies it's two components mixed that cause a chemical hardening rather than a solvent drying. Single component paints are the ones that can be dodgy & go soft or bubble when solvent based paint is applied over them.
Just give it a good rub with a "scotch brite" or other FINE abrasive pad or paper to create a good "key" for the new paint. Oh yeh, nearly forgot, a good clean with some solvent to get rid of any old polish. vinegar is good for getting rid of old polish before painting. :thumb

if in doubt, rub down to 600 grit and use an isolating primer, then you can put any paint over the top pf it, works for me

I'm with Bailey on this one. Two pack is a bit like ther resin you use with fibreglass I guess so will take all sorts, it's toughness is why it is such hassle to sand down. You can even buy two pack in a can now believe it or not, though I haven't tried it the labelling suggested that you could cover it with any sort of paint. This would sufggest that you can use whaever you want on the two pack on your lowers. Why not try out some two pack in a can if you arent into compressors and spray guns.
