Painting silver side panels

looking at repainting the silver tank side panels on my 07gs black, is it literally a case of prep the panels and the prime, paint and the lacquer?

or do the black panels from an adv of the same year fit straight on? if so, where can i get them from (dealer i take it?) and what sort of damage are we talking?

they are about hundred and forty quid each ! painted mine satin black 2K,can't get a picture up on here though!

yep, its all sorted now after an "interesting" weeks and i fooking love it, just want to give it a new "look"!

imo best bike out there,

look on the bright side when you go into vines now i bet they all know who you are

well took the plunge yesterday and painted the panel,

gave it 2 coats of grey primer and then 4 coats of satin black paint, followed by 2 coats of clear lacquer, all aerosols from halfords, cost about £25 in all,

Looks like a great job, just a word of caution, don't spill petrol on the job. Ik lacquer (which is what you get in a aerosol) will deteriorate if petrol spills onto it, much safer to use 2k (two pack) if you can.

You can buy it from someone like Brown Bros, but it may be easier to pop into a small bodyshop and offer someone a bit of cash to flick a coat over the top of what you have done.
