Right,

I have finally got the engine bits back from the blasters and it looks OK.

I am going to paint it using Hammerite Smoothrite, so, do i use a primer or not??

The cases, barrels and heads were grit blasted, then vapour blasted...

I just sprayed the bare alloy, coming up to two years ago now and still looking neat.

The special metals primer will make the finish last a bit longer.:)

OK, thanks all. Decided to go with the majority vote and painted the heads and barrels with silver hammerite smooth, here's some before and after shots..

On the bike

Blasted...

And now painted...

And a few other pics...

Crank cases next!

Jeezo mate !!!! I think you need to stop storing that bike in a salt mine :D:D:D:D

results look good though . :thumb:thumb

It did look rough...

The previous owner just rode it, day and night, summer or winter, did 113,000 mls without a wash.....

The telelever and front engine cover come up a treat with powdercoat . Just pop the bearings out before you send it . I did mine 5 years ago and they would still look minted but I cleaned the bike with an aggressive cleaner and it marked all the paint and powdercoat . :blast:blast

Ive found powder coat copes with most things. What cleaner did you use that damaged it?

Oh fuck !!! someone had to ask :blast:blast:blast

Cue the slagging and arsehole comments

In my defense , I used it many years ago on a vauxhall chevette engine bay and it worked a treat . I guess they changed the formula in the past 25 years . :beerjug::beerjug:
