Does anyone know, or could someone tell me what the distance is from the bottom of the pannier to the bottom of the bottom pannier rack tube, BMW aluminium panniers.

Thanks

I'll have a measure-up. Do you have a preference to side?

Be later on this eve.

Why?

Hi Fluff, that would be wonderful thank you, either side, or both if you don't mind, I think they should be the same..

I am making a set of panniers and a topbox, the only thing left to do before welding them together is the cut out for the exhaust. I have tried to keep them roughly the same size as the BMW ones and I don't want to hang them too low to the ground. I have a fair idea what the measurements should be but I really need an exact measurement as a double check.

Thanks
Colin

Set the exhaust can closer to the wheel and you'll probably get two full size cases on the bike. My Akraprovic twin silencer system would definitely have enough space if the can were not angled out. It's not been modded because its the top end Ti system and I do less touring these days.

Granny and eggs moment - Don't forget the final drive swings up high and could hit a deep side case.

LHS (exhaust side) 45mm from the bottom of the pannier to the bottom of the lower frame tube.

RHS is slightly different as the bottom of the pannier is tapered all round not just the 3 sides of the LHS one to allow for the exhaust cut out. Dims are 20mm from bottom of lower frame tube to beginning of taper, 50mm to the bottom panel of the pannier.

Both panniers are therefore roughly 47.5mm from bottom panel to lowest part of lower frame tube.

Hope that helps.

Fluff.

Cheers for that, most appreciated and valuable info, going by pictures I thought it would be about 75mm, so I'm glad I asked.

Cheers
Colin
