Having got the 1150GS set up with some rather nice Jesse stuff - panniers and 45l top box - I've been looking at inner bags.

Found the Cee Bailey ones and the Helen2Wheels ones. The CB's look just the job BUT...$119 is fine for two pannier bags and two lid bags...it's the $46 postage that hurts.

Can anyone recommend a UK (or mainland) supplier of similar? (I've looked at Mane Event).

Thanks,

GW.

If you find anything, let me know too as I need some.

Kiwi Bob informed me the makers of the Jesse bag liners is very ill and he doesn't know when or if he will be getting any further supplies. He is actively seeking another supplier but it may take a while.

Must admit, the Helen bags look good but what I'd really like is a set that Mike O used on his trip around the colonies. A nice pair!

Got mine fitted by KiwiBob on Saturday - worth a 5 country jaunt for the service and hospitality. :) Actually I like the look of the CBs more than the H2Ws - carrying handles and so on. However, I like the idea of 3 separate, colour coded bags for the panniers too.

The quest continues.....may have to make some :D

Maybe you want something 'made to measure', but I have just bought two 46CM Hampton Florida Range Flight Bags in midnight grey from Sainsbury's Supermarket. On offer locally at least for £8.79 each. They are smart enough and a nice fit leaving a bit of room in the odd shaped spaces around them for bike bits and pieces. You cannot stuff the bags too full widthwise, especially the left one, but they are a good fit otherwise. I am going to tape over the spring loaded catches on the Jesses to stop the bags snagging when I take them out and in. Otherwise I am well pleased. Norman

I'll keep a look out for them...not sure that we have a local Sainsbury that does anything other than food. I like the idea of taping over the catches though - and the idea of stuffing bits and bobs in the bottom of the panniers then having bags with 'hotel stuff' or 'in the tent stuff' on top. Not really worried about made to measure - usually find that such things are nice, but limited in one way or another.

Ta!

I asked a very similar question about this a few months ago, with little success, but my problem at least may be solved. The other day, I was in my office when a lady called in with a heavy duty yellow fabric bag with the JCB logo. I was on the phone at the time, so couldn't aske her where she got it, but it looked perfect for my Zega panniers and very heavy duty - as you would expect from JCB. Typically, by the time I finished the call she had gone, but I reckon a visit to a local JCB dealer could well solve the problem.

I bought a set of Ortlieb bags to use as liners. They do one with a rectangular base which fits both the Metal Mule and Zega cases very well. I've never used a Jesse but I think it should fit fine.

The advantage is that they are light (don't take up valuable pannier space) reasonably priced (don't remember exactly but around £15 from memory) and waterproof so you can unpack in the pouring rain without soaking your stuff. They also roll down so if you are taking stuff in and out of the bags you just roll it back down to fit and your stuff never rattles around.

When not in the bike you can use them inside small rucksacks etc and they make a good air pillow when camping.

I think there are two sizes, you don't get a choice of colour as the colour matches the size.

I got mine from Travel Dri-Plus

Lots of ideas there - thanks! I used the Ortlieb cylindrical bags for things like sleeping bags under a cargo net on the back of the bike but hadn't seen the rectangular base ones - will investigate. The waterproof nature of these is definitely a plus!

The european importer for Cee Bailey doesn't have the Jesse liners on their site so I've asked if they actually do/will supply them.

I'll keep you posted. :)

In the interests of research and flexibility in the packing solution department...I've ordered a range of Exped Dry Bags (Exped are the Swiss bit of Ortlieb. They aren't desperately expensive and aren't a rugged as the tough Ortliebs but, with a mixture of 40l, 20l and 10l I have a range of options to try - 2*20l in one side, 1 * 40l in the other and the 10l in the lids or 1 *40l or 2 * 20l in the top box.

Colour coded by size and waterproof (unless subjected to some rough handling I suspect).

The 40l ones are pack liners and are roughly rucsac shaped rather than cylindrical.

I'll report back when they arrive. :)

Is a UK importer for Cee Bailey. I don't know whether he stocks the inner bags but might be worth asking.

They didn't have them on the list because they weren't aware that Jesse bags are available in europe...they can get them no probs though :)

Any more details on this would be appreciated - can't seem to find them on the Ortlieb site.

Can't find a picture on the Travel-dri site - but they and Taunton Leisure supply these:

http://www.tauntonleisure.com/product/5774/

They're basically rectangular in section and the yellow ones are 48*40*20cm the red 67*40*20 (I think they're the same things from TL and Td).

Exped are the Swiss bit of Ortlieb apparently. Les at Travel-dri did a bit of checking for me on a set of Jesse panniers. He suggested putting the liners in, then stuffing things in rather than stuffing things in then squeezing the bags into the pannier - for maximum use of space.

I couldn't find any of the 'traditional' rubbery Ortliebs in a rectangular section.

The Expeds are waterproof but not for external use as the material isn't as tough as the rubbery stuff.

I should have some in a day or two if you want to wait for a full report :)

I have a set of Jesse liners (not sure of the maker) that are in London at the moment. If you are interested in getting some made I might be able to arrange for them to be used as templates. From memory they are the 2 piece per side set. (Isn't it sad I cannot even remember what 1/2 my kit looks like) Alternatively I will be coming across from the US to London sometime in August if you wanted to get a set delivered to my place in Denver and I can courier them over to avoid the VAT.

That's very kind of you.

I'll see how I get on with the bits and bobs I've ordered - things should start arriving tomorrow.

:)

(Meanwhile I'll be advertising a pair of BM system panniers and inner cases shortly).

That's because there isn't one!

I'll take some piccies over the weekend.

I take it Les hasn't sold his Jesse panniers then :) Worked out for you though!

The liners aren't of the "rubbery" material but they are still very durable and should be fine as long as you don't fill them with knives, barbed wire and broken glass.

Looks like the panniers are still for sale. Got a very nice informative email back from Les...v nice service. :)

Have ordered a 49l Ortlieb rack-pack too...that'll take the place of the top box on some trips. :)

Knives? Barbed wire? Heheh...the missus has been calculating the shoe-carrying capacity of 'her' pannier. :D

Just to round the story off...we now have a set of Cee Bailey inner bags for the Jesses - from Woodys Importarium (see To GS or not to GS forum sponsor for the link :) ). They look just the job, well made and really strong and pretty water resistant looking at the inner surface. Nice service.

Got the Ortlieb roll bag for when the top box is off and the luggage plate is on, got the Exped bags for packing into the CBs or for separate packing in the panniers.

Just about have all the bases covered. :D
