Read around the forum (alot) on the subject and I have come to the conclusion that I would like to try some cheap sports bags as pannier liners before committing to something like Mane Event bags or other makes. However, despite lots of nice people saying "...just bought some sports bags from Argos/JJB etc" they never say which bag. And, no I don't want to use shopping bags because you would tend to look a prat when trying to check them in at Heathrow!!

Please can I have either a web link to suitable bags, or a name of the bag and also some pictures of how well they fit. Apologies to anyone of this parish who makes money from such endeavours but I am a cheap skate :D

Would you like people to buy them for you, too? Killing two birds with one stone, a desire to save every penny and an adversion to doing any work.

Take a few minutes out of the time you spend flying around and find them yourself, the same way other people somehow managed to find them.

Bone idle and unimaginative.

thats a bit harsh mate - could have shouted at him for not using the search function.........:rob

anyway - yes people have used some bags from one of the main supermarkets - think it was M&S thats had some zip up bags that sort of fitted.

the genuine bmw bags make the panniers even smaller so try look elsewhere if possible otherwise u are left with maine event style bags....

He has used the search button:

And learned that Mane Event are a popular bag (as an alternative to BuMW's own bags) but doesn't want to buy them, just yet.

He has also learned that other people bought some sports bags from cheap outlets, like 'Argos/JJB etc'. These appeal as he is a self-confessed cheapskate.

So, he has learned just about all there is to learn about alternative bags. In addition, he has chosen to reject the possibility of using supermarket bags. These, though very appealing to his skinflint instincts, do not match his sartorial aspirations when queuing at Heathrow.

Now, having drained the collective knowledge on all there is to know about alternative inner bags, he wants help (weblinks preferred) on the final details of bags, so as to avoid using any imagination - and even any remote effort - as to which 'sports bag' would be ultimately suitable.

I guess this is so he can spend more time flying his aeroplane or riding his bike? Others having done all the work.

Really, just how difficult can it be? It's a simple bag, not a technical widget for the Space Shuttle. Trot off out of the door and find one.

Are people so insecure, unimaginative and / or lazy that they cannot chose a simple cheap bag without precise help?

My OH and I have done quite a bit of touring in the US, and reckon we have this fly/ride thing down pretty well now. For pannier liners we use Exped Dry Shrink Bags: http://www.facewest.co.uk/Exped-Shrink-Drybag.html. The small 42l size is good for vario luggage. they take up no extra space of their own and can be pre-packed into something like a Musto sailing bag for the flight, ready to decant into the motorcycle panniers on arrival. For the flight, I recommend Musto carry-all bags. They are made of a pvc-type material and are strong enough to use as check-in luggage. The key feature for us is that they have no rigid parts and pack down on arrival into their own small stuff bag: http://www.marinescene.co.uk/product/4869/musto-carryall. (Web addresses included for illustration only. We haven't used these suppliers.)

Seriously bad day

Wapping you truly are having a bad day. Go have yourself a beer. I am prefectly capable of measuring the vario and buying some sports bags. I just really don't see the point in reinventing the wheel. If someone has already found a decent cheap solution I will quite happily learn from their experience.

Thank you mrsroynie. I do sailing too and packing into dry bags might be the right idea, then packing into a collapsible bigger bag.

I don't really know what you think this forum is for Wapping, but I'll be sure to ridicule you when you ask a question. Post closed.
