Hi,

Bought a set of ally pannier boxes for my 1200 gs from this site a while ago and the seller sent them to me with the locks still in place, 2 locked.
I tried to get him to send me his key to remove the barrels, even to send to a bmw dealer for security reasons but got a rebuke.
Any one got tips for removal/ drilling the barrels without destroying the plastic latches which are expensive to replace.
A local locksmith said he might be able to pick the locks but I'm not sure how you then remove the barrels to rebuild.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I think you're definitely better off getting the locksmith to try and pick the lock rather than risk damaging it.

I can't remember the exact way to get the barrel out once they are unlocked but I know it can be done relatively easily, as when I bought my panniers I built the locks up myself to fit my key (you just get a load of parts in a bag for each lock and a set of instructions) and on one of them I cocked up and had to remove the barrel and fix it, didn't have any problems but they were unlocked at the time!

Good luck.

which locks are locked? can you unbolt the lock from inside then you can get barrel out.have you tried putting the rubber stopper in and turning it:augie, try it you may be surprised,if you have the shorter stoppers this may not work.hav:augiee you tried your key with a bit of jiggling?
im surprised the vendor wont post you a spare key, seems the right thing to do imo.

Thanks all for advice.

Local locksmith picked all barrels and coded them to my key. All for £20.
Result!!!!!

If only I hadn't drilled that first one, doh!. I wouldn't have to fork out £17 for new barrel.

Any lock problems in or near Belfast go to all locks castleregh road. They can even cut a key from a barrel, not BMW though.
