Does anyone know if the barrel locks on bmw Ally panniers are the same on the pre LC and LC models?
Have the chance of some from a twin cam set and looking to pop them in my 2018 Adventure boxes.

Have a look at the realoem website, I'm sure you'll find the answer there.

That's vario cases not the Ally adventure boxes. I'd like to think they are all the same but who knows with BMW?

The ally boxes for the twincam, use the same lock cylinder as the Vario cases :)

however the ally boxes for the K50 series appear to use a different cylinder :(

Lock barrels

Pics of the various locks I found in my box of bits. Shows the size difference quite well.

The one with the key is for the Vario and hexhead Ali panniers/topbox.

Middle one is for the LC Ali panniers/topbox.

And for further comparison, the rhs one is for the RT system panniers/topbox.

They all work with the same style of key found on the 'new' 1200 models from 2004/2005 onwards. Also work with the LC style key.

Thank you all for your replies.
Looks like they won't fit so I'll stick to having 2 separate keys.
Many thanks.

You dont need all the wafers in the lock for it to work, put in a couple that match your current key and leave it there -

Lets face it if they want in to the panniers, there going to get in. locks are pish against a lump hammer and screwdriver

Indeed, but my locks are the non recodable ones, hence the possible purchase of 8 new barrels.

What do you mean by 'non recodable'?
You might just need to pop the silver disc off and slide the brass pin out to allow the wafers to be removed however it's usually only the RT locks that have the brass pin.
