Got caught between the Todrha and the Dades Gorges in Morocco couple of weeks ago thinking it was a road as shown on the map. As some of you will know it deteriorates into a dry river bed and what with me, the Mrs and a full load we went down a couple of times.

I have done some damage to the left pannier, nothing too extensive but the top is a bit twisted and lost its watertight seal. I feel pretty sure a good fabricator will fix it with a few well aimed bashes. I am avoiding doing this myself in case I make it worse. Tried Bahnstormer and Touratech (who made the panniers for BMW) thinking they may know someone but they don't.

Any help appreciated.

ps I live in Surrey

I have experience of this, as had to fix a left pannier when a family member dinged it in their car.

If you fancy a trip to Sandwich, we can have a look and see if it’s salvageable.

My panner was twisted and would not seal at the front inner.

No charge, and may even make you a cuppa whist we sort it out

PM me if you want to come down.

What an offer, can't say fairer than that.

Hi Hugh, very kind offer, thank you. I'll try to find someone closer if possible but otherwise I'll be back in touch. Thanks again

Somebody who repairs caravans and motorhomes... they will be used to working with Aluminium and the importance of a good seal.

I used to carry out metal bashing in the RAF, don’t you know, did I ever tell you about the time...

Cabbage crates over Blighty and all that ....

Haha I also went down there and smashed an indicator - but what a great trail :thumb2

Hey Hugh, pull up a sand bag mate. I was in the RAF too. We would be there all day drinking tea and talking about how good it was back in nineteen canteen! I'll hope to meet you sometime

That’s 3 of us then, perhaps we should ask for a blue suit sub section away from all these ex polis and rough army types:D

We did something similar last year, although it only rolled off the sidestand in a cafe car park in Switzerland. Outwardly there is no obvious damage, but I think it’s slightly twisted the box part and the lid no longer seals. If I pressure wash the bike it probably collects 3 tablespoons of of water.

I’ve thought about trying to fix it, but feel it may end up worse.

Basically the fix involves laying the pannier on its side in the bench, putting a car jack at the front, insulated by some wood, and re-educating the shape.

Then once it’s almost sorted, using a dead blow hammer (hammer with lead shot to stop recoil and ’enhance’ the impact) gently applying some force to the front corner.

So in effect ..... giving it a right royal twatting.

If England don’t turnover the Pumas I might take my anger out on it this afternoon, what could go wrong

Artisan at work, years of learning and skills gained, time spent testing and fettling. Endless test jobs and pressure tests, followed by ruthless peer reviews and manufacturers scrutiny.

Your summary is however, a fair one.
