When I got my bike there was a small hole and dent on one of the panniers, I tried taking it apart but it appears the aluminium is glued to the frame, I would be grateful for any advice on how to repair it? Thanks.

I've had the aluminium trim off my vario top box to remove a dent, which should be the same. From what I remember, the outer edge trims are screwed on from the inside. Then it is just a case of gently teasing off the aluminium trim.

I'm making this up I type 'cos TBH I've never tried to fix an ally box as thinly made as those nasty things, but.....

Look for a solid former that's as close to the interior curve as you can find......a bar, a tube, whatever.
Use heat, and a large flat surfaced bashing device (there's probably a technical body repairer's name for that sort of hammer, but the idea is sound) to gently flatten the heated outside surface back to the forming surface's shape
Add chemical metal to the inside surface, allow to set, assuming that's a hole I see there.
Sand down exterior using sensibly increasing grit numbered papers., going back to the forming part as and when required.
Get the best possible surface you can, or vinyl wrap both boxes if it's not good enough for you.

Don't wring your hands over the minor blemishes once it's done.......it's not 'damage', it's 'Character' :)

Like Victor says it's just a thin cover. Take the 2 plastic end parts off, easy with a screwdriver. Just watch the screws are inside the lids and plastic bits for the lock latches. Just prise off the cover using something like a flat filler spreader/knife. BMW list the cover as a separate part but you'll be lucky to get one. Can always knock it out then wrap it..
Did ours a while ago as they were covered in small dents and scratches, look ok.

When you put the screws back in don't forget they've cut their own threads into the plastic. Treat roughly they'll cut new threads and strip out the holes. Turn the screws backwards until the threads click and they'll go smoothly into the original threads.

Thanks for the advice, plenty of food for thought. Good to know that new covers are available but as I don't use the panniers much I'm not sure I could justify the cost. Also glad to have it confirmed that they are glued on, when I did try to remove it I though I would do more harm that good so left it. Might just try filling and painting it, if that fails I can wrap or replace.

Hi DGB might see you around, don't see many G 650 XC's so I say hello if I spot you.

Thanks Again !
