Twife says I can splash out on some decent panniers as she cant fit all her shoes and clothes (etc, etc) in standard panniers (GS1150 2001- std black plastic BMW panniers).
Ive been searching (and searching) for the best type of pannier available in UK and now Im fed up SO.. balancing price and quality what would you recommend chaps ?
or is there a forum Ive missed
Cheers

Civils.

I'm just trying to bring myself to part with that much money for 2 metal boxes.

I don't have a set, but having seen many sets I would have to say Caja Sahel. Very sturdy looking boxes and when I have the disposable I will be getting a set myself.

As usual, no connection to Civil at all. Apart from thinking that Billie would be better off with me.

Don't forget Vern...

Absolutely first class kit. Handmade in the shed (!!), the welding is a work of art. Details at ProjectVND (mines the bike on the left on the home page).

Fully welded (no rivets here, thank you), hard anodised, waterproof and bl**dy strong, Vern can make them to order - wide or narrow, tall or low lid, etc. Mike O used a set for his epic journey around the USA...

I've no connection with Vern, other than he's one of THE top blokes on this site and a true craftsman.

Recommended.

The cheap soft version

As an alternative for kit carrying Aldi have waterproof roll bags @ £5.99. With a little invention easily carried on rear of the bike as I do, have camped using a Heine Gericke version and intend manufacturing a rails to carry two as pannier's for a trip to France, I know not lockable or secure but a good cheap method if like me you don't fancy great bread bins sticking out & want occasional stowage.

thanks gents

Thanks for the comments and recommendations, sorely tempted by Aldi alternative (fellow Yorkshireman). Wonder why the manufacturers dont put their prices on their websites, it would save a lot of faffing about. All seem steep for a couple of aly boxes.

I`ve done all my Euro munching with the BMW System panniers and either a tailpack or Givi Maxia topbox.

When solo there`s more than enough space.

When Glambabe is with me,and she`s given the smaller exhaust side pannier, it ensures she has to pack the skimpiest of clothing in order to have enough room.

:D :D :D

If cost isn't a consideration - go for the MetalMules (2 equal capacity with a modified exhaust to allow)

If you are not looking to shell out that much............ Caja Sahels or Zegas.
