Right I want to get a set of Panniers, not sure about the top box? as i see that space big enough to run a otileb role bag right a cross if the need a raised, I am also not adversed to have a top box as could be used for commuting & in & out of London traffic (would of course take of the panniers off) so i don't take out any cars!! lol
can't decide between
TT Zega / Zega Pro
BMW
Metal Mule
points to note

I do like the idea of the panniers being flat on top, so you can use the top for strapping on other items, also the idea of being able to attach containers on the rear of the panniers, (must be the soldier in me),
they of course would need to be waterproof, (i know i would still use bag inserts)

any constructive advice welcome or other suggestions for Pannier manufacturers thank you.

I would recommend you have a look at a set of worldbeaters by vern. You won't be disappointed.

Having seen a set of these in the flesh now, and having read about the abuse they've taken on Tsiklonaut's ride around the world, they're what I'm saving up for, to replace my system panniers.

Probably won't be till next year now. Spend the money once and you'll have the best built panniers around.

Not to knock Vern's lovely panners. Redcap's Ardcases are nice too.

Less sophisticated and smaller than Vern's but cheaper and sturdy.

+1 for Verns, especially as you have a choice of tops so you gets to choose how much space you want in the lids.
Have to say they are the best, for my needs.
If there is a down side they are not QD but for me thats not an issue and the advantages make up for that.

a set of civils will do all you want too and can take lots of abuse (as can civil :D)
look up cajasahel and see what ya think

That's true... it honestly takes about 5 minutes to get them off and on. If you ever get near devon and fancy a look pm me... heck bolt them on your bike and try them for a drive! er... would probably make more sense to just drive my bike with them on! :blast
