I'm new here so be gentle. :)

I'm looking seriously at the R1200GS for my next bike. One issue however is the side cases. They seem to hang a long way out from the bike so are way wider than seems necessary and of course the LHS caes has to get around the exhaust can.

Is it possible to -
A - Mount the cases in closer? Maybe not this close, but more then 1" clearance each side of the rear tyre does seem a lot.

B - Fit narrow twin silencers that wont hit the tyre and still allow the cases to sit closer

C - Fit the exhaust muffler lower or even have it height adjustable to maintain the style when side cases are not in use.

Company called StahlKoffer do a set which has full size panniers,
They have adapted the mounting frames to accommodate.
The prices look pretty good to.

Try all the others and waste alot of money to get where you will end up anyway.

Buy once, but right, Project VND worldbeaters are the best you can get. Made by Vern (who in fairness should be on stage doing a Jethro tribute), I've had TT panniers, system panniers and a home brew set, none of them compare to the excellence of the worldbeaters.

Made to order, made how you want them (within reason). Not the easiest things to put on and take off, but you'll never lose a lid or a pannier and they are super stable at speed.

Stainless steel mountings and fasteners all round. When you look at what vern charges compared to TT, you realise that what Vern offers is value for money. There are cheaper systems, there are dearer systems, but there are no better value for money systems. Vern takes pride in his work and if he's not 100% happy then you'll have to wait a little longer until they are right. Tolerance is in his vocabulary :D:D:D
