Panniers

Trev,

What width of MetalMules do you have, and what's your opinion of them? Do the handles rattle all the time?

I am torn between the BMW Vario panniers and something like MetalMules or Touratechs.

The MetalMules are appealing, but I'd be looking at around £1000 to fit to my 1200Adv.

Sorry I dont' know the exact width (prob. on the site) - I got the biggest ones they do - the 45Litre jobs.

I'm really happy with the panniers - quality welding etc and the handles don't rattle - mega carrying capacity as you see.

Brackets weren't great to put on as I mentiones but maybe it was a bad batch :nenau

Problem with Top Box was resolved well by MM and overall I think they are heavy duty equipment - maybe a bit more butch than TT but I suppose that's subjective - I was torn between TT & MM and went MM as they were able to get them to me within my 3week period before I went on my hols.

They're not cheap but once I got them mounted I was and am a happy camper. :)

On the 1150 with two 45 lit panniers and the exhaust kit the overall width is exactly the same as the handlebars - 98cm from memory. Don't know about the 1200 though...

N.B My foto is without the exhaust kit - just the std. Remus - it makes the bike wider at the rear than the h/bar but as i said I'm not diving into any gaps etc. with this much gear on anyway - it's difficult enough getting stopped

Trev,

Thanks for the feedback, If I went for the 45 ltr ones - I would have gone for the exhaust-modification too.

Looking at all the forum pics and the pics sent from Metalmule, it looks like they are better built than the majority on the market.

As it is - I think I'll go for the BMW Vario ones for now and possibly upgrade to the MetalMules when the need arises.

Thanks again,
Al :D
