Hiya

New forumite, having been lurking on here for a while digesting the content having discovered GS's a few months ago. I'm not really much of a poster, but this may change.

But this really incensed us on Saturday.

Went into Park Lane Motorrad, needing a complete rider and pillion set of gear + helmets - likely spend north of a couple of grand.

Lady in the clothing dept was busy, and there was a small queue. No issue with this. BUT the bike sales blokies were all free. Asked if they could help, to which the response was no, had to wait for the clothing lady.

Is selling clothing that technical and difficult that bike sales people can't do it? It seems that they were too busy - all three of them - sitting around picking their noses than helping customers.

Another customer in the shop was interested in a System 6 helmet and the clothing lady got one out of stores, and gave it to the customer. No offer of a helmet fitting, no advice. Zip zadda. Customer just left to it.

Helmet fitting is so important to get right, for obvious safety reasons, and the blonde clothing lady didn't have a clue.

Not impressed with her product knowledge or the attitude of the staff.

Well they can carry on picking their noses and igoring customers. Our £2K is getting spent at another dealer !!! C'mon !

go to vines and speak to penny, bought loads there never a prob

Looks like their customer service is about the level they can achieve. Low, with small possibility to be reduced.

No surprize

Just wonder how much worse it could get. There are some brilliant dealeers just outside London. Try Coopers in TWells. I will do the 60 mile round trip to avoid spending any money with the afore mentioned dealer.

May be BMW Motorrad will wake up to how bad their flag ship is, but don't hold your breath.

I dont think they like people from Slough for some reason as another guy on here from your way has had no end of trouble with them!!

You should try SBW up in Hertford, very helpful bunch

it`s the only shop I`ve ever walked out of, they where too busy to take my money. As the flagship store I`m amazed that the stay in business.

Vines are nicer people to deal with and if your nice to penny and say I sent you you might get a discount:thumb2

Wow, and I thought it was just me!!

In the market for a bike, I test rode a GS through Park Lane about three years ago. I found them unhelpful, patronising and, well, snotty. I had some questions about the GS, was promised several call backs but noone ever called.

It put me right off beemers - I thought 'sod you' and I went and bought another Tiger.

Thankfully it all turned out alright in the end. I went to SBW in Hertford, and they were utterly brilliant.

It sounds like the 'out of London' experience is, yet again, better than the 'in London' experience...

I got my 1200gs from there at the end of may and had no problems.

Very helpfull and the sales guy even did two test rides at once (a rather posh gent also different bikes)

Very happy with the bike and a good price :D cheaper and less miles on it than SBW with the BMW assist and wanranty and 6k service.

Only niggle was they book you in an appointed time to collect and made the appointment without contacting me so a bit fustrating but wanted the GS.

I spent twent five mins with the finnace guy and changed my finance about 4 times .

Wanted sat nav power adding and quoted £90 "LOL"

While there it was very busy so can understand customers fustration best thing to do is book a slot.

I have only been there once and had a similar experience.. I've also had similar experiences at Vines. I called there only yesterday to speak with the parts dept, spent 5 mins listening to lift music, was told the dept was busy and that they would call me back when quieter, left my contact details and waited for the call...............

Still waiting................

Only 1 word..........

BAHNSTORMERS.........

Go to a place that sells proper branded bike gear, rather than BMW tat. Will save you from looking like a twat as well!! :)

Park Lane must be the worst Motorrad sales outlet, I d dare say in Europe. The 2 main guys (Simon is one) are good when they want to, but generally don't rerally care. Simon is a member here, so I 'd expect him to be up with a response.

In any case, I have also test driven from them ( I live 300 yards away), but have never bought anything because of their loose attitude. I bought privately (always do tbh) and have been going 25 miles north to SBW in Hertford for servicing, inadvertedly needing a day off work for the annual service (which I combine with a long ride back at least).

Their servicing in Battersea must also be the worst place in the country.

My take on it is that they don't care for sales or aftersales as they always sell in Mayfair. GSs don't need selling, they fly out of the door even at tough times especially in London, where the archetypical owner is a city boy who wants to look like Ewan and Charlie.. Their servicing is the same..

I dare you to call Battersea BMW now to hear what their waiting list is for a service - bet on 2 weeks min...

Clothing in the store is the worst... a) they don't stock enough stuff b) they don't want to sell it (once I asked if I could try a pair of boots on display that was my size. Sales person declined saying that they were only for display and not to sell! Go figure)

My advice as everyone above: go elsewhere. SBW, Oxford BMW, Vines all great shops...

Id probably agree with you 100%, but if they have a bike at the right price with good miles on :thumb depends on what your looking for.

I will probably take my GS to SBW for servicing as i work in Stevenage . I hope the reputation is as good as its workmanship.

The only thing i didnt like about SBW was they were a bit too pushy on the sales front. If i see a bike i like & want i will probably buy but im not buying a bike thats overpriced because its there. There second hand prices were very high. They seemed to be unaware of Autotrader (Bike trader)

The Peterbourgh BMW were very good and helpful also.

So what gear would you suggest GSmonkey?

The BM clothing is v good quality (IMHO), is backed by a genuine 2 yr warranty and is actually reasonably priced.

I'm very pleased with my tw*t suit, has lasted very well (nearly 5 years). Am in the market for a new suit as it happens...

But I do agree with the general sentiment on the Motorrad showroom at Park Lane.

+1, BMW gear is well made and thought through.

I have Rukka gear too and it's nowhere near as good, everything has leaked, numerous times and has had to be replaced. It also cost twice as much as my Twat suit.

Have you tried any BMW riding gear or are you just scrabbling around to find something to say to join the bandwagon?:nenau

Didn't know there was a bandwagon  I think you're confusing my 'twat' comment with the twatsuit.....my comments of twattishness are more general:

Ride a Honda, wear Honda gear = twat
Ride a Kawasaki, wear Kawasaki gear = twat
Ride a H-D, wear H-Dgear = twat
.
.
. etc. etc.
all IMHO of course :rob

As for the quality, I've had a look at it, doesn't seem anything special...........doesn't have to be, as BMW owners buy it by the shedload. Could be Primark clobba, but a BMW label on it and it'll be bought at a premium.

Buy a Brand e.g. Rukkka, Arai, Daytona, etc. and they can't really trade on their badge, the gear's got to be good, or people won't buy it. :thumb

Personally I like my Rukka gear, 5yr guarantee - useful for people who ride every day.

:love

I ride every day all year round and my Rukka gear let me down, not once, not twice but 4 times:eek

Original trousers leaked, replaced under warranty, replacements leaked and were replaced under warranty. Same with the jacket:(

My current Rukka kit is now out of warranty and doesn't leak, however, I no longer have faith in it and therefore, it hangs in my garage unused.
