I am visiting Edinburgh early next month and will be staying at a friends flat in the city centre (Walker Street area). Problem is there is only on-street parking. I intend going up to the Highlands afterwards and would like to bring the bike but the lack of secure parking does concern me. Can anyone suggest where I can safely leave the bike for my 3 day stay - dont mind if its some distance away as I dont intend using it whilst in the city. Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks Barry

the BMW garage in Dalkeith is as safe as it's gonna get....:thumb

(unless there's a tosser with a garage)

Walker St ehh....that was my walk when I used to deliver the Christmas post when I was a student at Edinburgh University.

If you don't get a better offer, you're welcome to put your bike in my lockup for those three days. I'm about 10 miles from the City Centre but in the right direction if you're going to be going up North and there's easy bus or train access from the centre of town.

Thanks for the suggestion of Dalkeith and appreciate the offer Schtum will give it some thought.

Surprisingly, the city of Edinburgh is not too bad for bikes at the moment. If you take the usual precautions you would be ok. There are lots of bikes parked on the street overnight.

I would suggest removing the panniers and any valuables.

Whether to parking in a brightly lit area or not is personal choice. In the dark the little darlings may not notce the bike in the frst place. In a brightly lit area there is no guarantee that a passing police patrol would notice someone at the bike (assuming that there would be such a thing as a passing police patrol these days!).

Park it near a McDonalds and you should manage to get passing police patrol cars :augie
