I need to come back to London for a few days work so thought I might take the bike instead. What's the score with parking in and around Whitehall/Horse Guards? Cost, theft, damage etc are my main concerns so if anyone has any hot poop news, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers, in anticipation,

This area is administered by the robbing bastards at Westminster City Council. These filth are rolling out a charging scheme across their bays, which is probably in place everywhere by now. What's worse, you have to sign up for a pay-by-phone account - and then email the administrators as there's no spam-opt-out.

It's £1.50 for the whole day.

Damage - some inconsiderate nerk with a beaten up scooter will almost certainly ram it next to your pride and joy. It happens in London. Theft is fairly unlikely if you've got a lock.

It was on local news the other day. Signs are up to pay but they are apparently not enforcing it for a month.

Took a guy 20 minutes to pay for a ticket on the phone.

I use my bike almost every day around and about London. The last few weks in Westminster I have had a leaflet stuck in my bike to say that Westminster Council will start to charge from the 4 August for motorcylce parking. This however, as they say on their blurb, is good for motorcyclists as they are using the extra money to re-invest in more motorcycle bays. Its wonderful how considerate they are to motocyclists.

Scooters .............if you want your bike to have that lived in look just leave a 1 inch gap between you and the next bike and you'll come back and five five scooters will be wedged in the space. My mate couldn't get his bike out so he wheeled the scootor over to the double yellow and left it there. Plus if you want to park in London get there by 07:30.

I have usually found lots of bike space down on the Embankment as late as 10 am, which is a short walk or an easy Tube (Embankment). Last time I parked the GS and noone parked within a metre either side! (Maybe it was the Syria stickers that scared them away!):augie

Many thanks

Cheers to all,
Ordered my LBG yesterday and have got a plan or two.

As ever, consulting the 'font of all knowledge' has come up trumps.
