Just been offered £8000 for my 3 year old GS SE with spoked wheels and LEDs all round in exchange for a £13000 Goldwing (2011 with 7000 miles on the clock).

Deal or No a Deal.

No deal sell it private. I tried to part exchange a harley and I was offered 4.5k so I sold it private for 6.3k. 🖒

In that case give them a little squeeze and at least get extra £500-£750. At the end of the day you are spending £13000 with them. Good luck.

Part ex is bollox , sell privately and have the cash to pave a good deal. Must add a Goldwing .......Why ?????

I just got rid of my 63 plate Goldwing last August after having it for two and a half years . Pros and cons: Pros: Comfortable heated seats, smooth engine. you get both feet on the ground, Cons: 170 mile fuel tank, heavy beast for commuting, Unless you are handy with the spanners, it is very, very expensive to have anything done to it. Even to change a rear tyre. Tyre fitting companies not interested in doing so, unless you take the wheel off.So you have to do it yourself or take it to a Honda stealer which will add £100 to the cost of your tyre. Talking of wheels I had 3 new sets of wheels fitted to my bike until the warranty ran out, and the same issue of peeling lacquer was still happening to my last set of wheels. The bike had only covered 6,000 miles. The 1800Gold wing has been plagued with ABS/ Brake recalls since it came on the market since 2004 and Honda have not rectified the problem of it yet. The Air bag version is now being re-called due to the system exploding and injuring the rider with metal fragments. And the air bag model is around an hour and a half just to change the air filter by an experienced mechanic, as the air bag has to be dismantled and this is easier said than done. Disconnect the battery, remove both fairings and then the tank then the airbag then you have access to your air filter. The bike suffers from old technology, only half of the switches illuminate on the handle bars and dash. The built in Garmin GPS requires you to pay around £200 for an updated SD card which you can only purchase from Honda. No Bluetooth. I bought a 650 Versys in the end to commute to my work as the Wing was
hard going. Buy one by all means if you want to head for the states, but remember you'll be stopping every hour to refuel at around 45 mile to the gallon at 70 mph... Paid £25,000 for it new, traded it in for £14,500..

 I thought they were bulletproof on residuals, so no better than BM in the corrosion department and reliability? GW is supposed to be the flagship:nenau So is the pre 2001 better?

A grim but I guess honest report. It's interesting that in all of my research I haven't come across a user report this honest. Maybe you had a rogue machine, but somewhere in the back of my mind I sort of imagine that this is not an isolated case.

Thanks for that. What with the rubbish trade-in and your comments, along with other reviews, I might just be re-considering my choices.

To be honest, one of the biggest problems I felt about the bike was the poor dealership response along with that from Honda. A friend has one a year older with similar issues on the wheels but whenever it comes back from the dealer it has minor damage on it. scratches to panels on damage to exhaust.Another friend that used the same dealer with his VFR, suffered similar problems of damage. My bike was in to the dealer 5 times to try to fix the poor radio reception, they still never fixed it. Honda are up their own arse if they think this is anywhere like a "flagship" bike. but its your money you take your choice. You may get one that you are happy with. If you do buy one I would be interested to see how you get on with it after 6 months.

Chips, have sent you a PM, but I hope you've had a chance to actually ride the considered bike?
If not, do so.
If you're gonna ride mostly solo, then yes, there are better bikes, but for two up riding, there is nothing better IMO
