Part ex value... 2015 GSA TE

A bit like estate agents keeping the market prices over inflated for their own greed.
cheers

I think that's a silly statement! An estate agent can't affect the price the house contracts for ...its what the buyer wants ( is able ) to give !

Don't know about the rest of you but I think it's shocking what the dealers want to buy these used bikes for compared with what they resell them for, I know they have to make a profit but
the mark-up on used bikes is massive.
I think it's a fact that the dealers make most of their money from buying and selling used stock and from their service departments !

You need to find a good dealer. My dealer does me a cracking trade in on my old bikes, plus a good discount on the new ones, plus they go out of their way if there are any issues. Hence why I don't go anywhere else now.;)

Dare I ask?

Having got fairly close to a dealer principle I think I can say with some confidence that profit margins are not big across the business as a whole.

BMW seem to keep their dealers in a perpetual state of threatening to withdraw unless they.... a good example would be some marketing bloke insisting that dealers have a large semicircle hung from their ceiling showing "BMW journey". The ceiling was too low .....tough shit....you need to increase the height, if you don't do it we will withdraw the dealership....total cost over £100k....won't sell one more bike as a result.

Or....well done, through excellent customer service you have increased the customer base significantly. However, we have modelled your growth and you will run out of room in 2 years.....move premesis or we will withdraw the dealership.

Ain't a bed of roses being a dealer.

There's no point explaining to this lot. Most of them don't understand how business works.

Or a few 'customers' who didn't have the wit to differentiate between brand new and 2nd hand bikes, complain to BMW who then insist the dealer creates sufficient floor space to be able to have definitive New v Used section.
A friend ran a successful Subaru dealer for many years..right up until the umpteenth time Subaru insisted he put new tiles in the showroom as the existing ones must have been over 2 yrs old....he told them to sod off and no longer sells them.

Well, every body is entitled to their own views but a good number of the BMW dealers are small businesses....and I doff my cap to any body who has the balls to risk everything and run their own business.....and if you think they are a rip off the answer is wonderfully simple....don't buy the product.

Go on then

What do we think a top BMW bike dealer makes a year ? You will be shocked at the return on investment

Not a lot.

Edit - when there's people like us negotiating.:D

Well let's talk about the initial set up investment ... With land ... Approx £2 million ... As an average

The on going re investment ... New signage ... Re branding ... All done direct from BMW ... No negotiation.

So what return would you want ?

Not as much as they did 20 years ago, despite selling double the number of units nowadays - I bet

I think I've only been in a BMW dealer 3 times this year & haven't bought a bike from them since 2010

More than any franchise would pay me. I looked into franchising a few years ago, and after taking the initial investment into account, the risk, and the potential earnings, walked away. Glad I did now.

The other thing about what dealers give as a p/x is, apart from the cost of selling the buyer is either a trader who also needs a slice or if they put it up on their own showroom the next buyer wants new tyres/MOT change of oil etc etc.

I'm not surprised the return in investment is not great and that BMW insist on corporate imagery being just so.

In this day and age running a business is tough, my father (74) made lots of money in the 70-90s with margins easily double what we achieve in the same game today without the levels of cost and bureaucracy. Running any business is not as easy as many imagine.

So ... Why

Do some call them stealers !!!!

They wouldn't get out of bed for the profit achieved....

Let's work with the dealers, support them or we will lose them .. Yes let's get a good deal ... But it's called win win situation

Anyway ... Off my soap box ... Time to ride my bike :bounce1

Ps ... I'm not a dealer

I do seem to recall you rejoicing in telling everyone here how you managed to screw your dealer down to the bone on your new bike though.:augie

Yes I got a good deal, in my opinion ... And was supported by BMW with a goodwill contribution ...But the head of business could have said no to the deal ... And I actually said to him .. I don't think you will match it this time ... But he bettered it for my loyalty ... :thumb2
