Hi, I have my bike up for sale (for sale section and elsewhere), went to local Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer for a look at 2 bikes, before I got anywhere near them, I was informed if my bike was to be traded in they would not take a BMW, his exact words were 'there not worth the hassle and we cant get shut of them! you will need to go private or get a low offer from BMW' anyone else heard of this? Puts me off looking at another BMW going forward.

Cheers

Steve

I got told my 3000 mile R9T needed ‘special tools’ when I enquired after a V85TT so their px would be low.

Next sentence she said they just pass it on to someone in the trade who specialised in BMW’s.

I formed the opinion she was a fucking idiot and haven’t been there again (Robinsons Foundry)

Edit: I just looked at your ad…I hear you want something more sporty, I was quicker on my 1200TB than on any other bike before or since. Straight line no, A to B yes

I just want something different, the GS bug has worn off for me. To big, too heavy, just not suitable for me anymore. Can't fault the bike, it's just me!

I maybe wrong but three dealerships that I have recently visited ( 2 weeks) are rammed with second hand bikes. Lots of new ones ready for the Mar1st reg, but stacks of pre owned.

Are the dealers just trying to fob folk off if they don’t rock up on dealer specific eg Triumph Suzuki etc , hoping they sell private then come back for a cash / finance deal.

When I traded my old 08 GSA for a 3 year old Versys 1000 about 4 years back, Chris Walker Kawasaki gave me a cracking deal. Not sure how his Prices would be now mind....

Stick with the brand get(maybe) a decent trade in, try a 12/1250R or RS, same weight but it feels lower and easier to manage and the extra 25 hp of the LC motor makes a big difference.

Local Yamaha dealer got stung on more than one occasion with BMW bikes taken in trade having expensive issues and getting shockingly poor service from the local BMW dealership

Thinking of moving to a kawasaki Z1000 SX.

Very nice bikes, quick enough, wheelie off the throttle, decent weather protection and the panniers are useful enough

I have heard time and time again from dealers that folk looking for a BMW will gravitate to that dealer network which is understandable as they will have the best selection, backed up with a two year unlimited mileage warranty that no other dealer can match. Further to this, non franchised dealers would need to sell the BMW for significantly less than the Motorrad dealer to make it worthwhile for punters. Generally I have found that when trading in one used BMW for another, the difference to change will usually represent better value at the franchised dealer than outside the network. For these reasons it is my belief that non BMW dealers struggle to offer buyers a compelling package and end up holding used BMW stock longer than they would like, eventually having to trade them on or slash the price, finding some other marques provide easier profit margins.

Just as long as they wheelie off the throttle, well that’s alright then! :blast
