Hi all, just noticed a slight oil leak on rhs of engine. 2010 TC. Above cylinder head plastic connector.
1) whats it called and what does it do
2) where on the microfiche is it as looking for part number
3) is there supposed to be anything connected to it? Looks kinda forlorn on its own...

Not a connector, it's a threaded bolt hole for mounting the cross brace on the crash bars. There's another on the other side.

Yep, above there is an oil pipe which has an alloy sealing washer to the engine.
Notorious for corroding away and leaking oil.
Replace it with a copper washer.

There is also an oil temperature sensor on top of the engine casing on that side of the engine, it too has an alloy sealing washer that corrodes and allows pressurised oil to leak onto the top of the engine (however this normally puddles on top and then runs down the left hand side when on the side stand.) Might be worth checking that also.

thanks. BMW have had it this week on other issues and have not mentioned it to me...Maybe its not been seen, maybe they don't look past what you ask and whats on their safety inspection sheet. Anyhows, its off to steppers on Monday for the 54k service and he has been informed..Cheerrs

I dare say the BMW agent does the typical menu servicing items, then its onto the next bike pronto, whereas Neil knows the bikes inside out and gives you the benefit of his extensive experience and casts a careful eye over the entire machine.

My brother's bike was leaking oil down the RHS. We eventually traced it to the crank position sensor on top of the timing gears cover. There was a lot of corrosion under the belt cover.
