Okay guys there's something you should know about part no. 71 60 7 705 265.
The BMW dealers do not know about this part no., because there are no handguards at all for BMW R1200GS and BMW R1200GS Adventure (March 2004 - October 2007) on the August 2008 repair CD. They do not know about the fact, that they can repair (= replace) your damaged hand guards!
But they can order part no. 71 60 7 705 265, that is possible. Which means you have to tell them about the issue.
Anyway it is availabe at Bohling & Eisele, which is an official BMW Motorrad partner, in Germay: 109,00 EUR
Why BMW dosn't inform the dealers - I have no idea! They don't know either!
