Hi All....

This may seem a bit of an odd question but as I will be carrying a pillion for the first time (on a GSA) I would like to know, possibly from regular pillion passengers, as to the "better comfort" levels when leaning back on a top box.

Would you say the Alloy box position is better than the vario box. i.e. is there more lean-back space with one more than the other?

I have vario at present but have the framework etc to fit the alloy box.

If anyone has any input, please let me know.

Cheers

Norm

I’ve had both on my bikes in the past, the only thing my wife complained about was the addition of the passenger pads that you can add to either box to act as a back rest.

I guess it depends on the passengers jacket too and if it’s fitted with a back protector or not.

When I fitted the pads she found these took up space and pushed her forward, she also saw no need for them as the back protector provided adequate padding when leaning on the box.

How fat is your pillion? If you have a hippo on the back, she'll have enough padding to be comfortable without a back rest.
If you've got a skinny one, they'll need the padding.

Honestly, you guys make me feel guilty. The lovely Sally has to put up with just a roll bag if we’re on tour and nothing if just a bimble.

you should take her out for Sunday lunch , somewhere nice , where the bill makes you squeal , to show your appreciation of her.
she has a lot to put up with from you. :ROFLMAO:

Anorexic Hippo (Japanese!)…😁

I’ve a 1250 GSA with a Givi Trekker 52. One thing I’ve noticed is the Givi mount places the box further back than BMWs own luggage options. I’ve just secured a Trekker outback 42 which I pick up tomorrow. Be interesting to see how that compares.

i have givi box and plate ,i made a small adapter plate to move the box further back.
about 35\40mm . lot more comfort space for my wife this is on 1200 gs .

I'd suggest trying both out with her. Maybe just go to a BM dealer that have an ally top box'd bike for sale and take a test ride...let her decide.

What happened to the good old days “jump on the back there love and hang on” 🤣🤣😉

Also consider seat comfort for pillion, I bought my nearest and dearest a Sargent!

Old Mother Gbags swears by the roll bag as it keeps her snug on even rough roads.
