Monday morning, using the PC which is running very slowly. Decide to reboot the system and during the reboot get this msg "File missing or corrupt Windows Root\System 32\hal.dll"
System will not reboot, oh sh*t it looks terminal! After trying numerous things it is obvious I am going to have to restore Windows which means a reformat of the hard disk....but hey I'm not worried cos in Feb I bought an external hard drive and since then I've been taking daily incremental backups.
Even so I was still a bit twitchy when I hit enter to reformat
So Windows is restored, although it takes an age to reboot now and when it is up the egg timer is constantly flashing next to the cursor
oh and some keyboard characters are not where they should be.
I have managed to restore all my data back to last Friday
I have reinstalled all my software and applications
I even managed to resolve a problem I had accessing the net and with numerous device drivers needing to be loaded for stuff like sound etc.
So can anybody help me with the minor niggles I have with the time taking to boot the system, the constant flashing egg timer and the keyboard set up? Perrleeeeaasssee
Oh and I can only endorse what Cookie said earlier this week, if you don't do so already.....get an external HD and take backups....you will save yourself so much grief!
