After years of faultless operation I've just tried to load some waypoints to my 2610 GPS.

When I plug in I get the following bubble: 'Found New Hardware'

I'm then directed to the Found New Hardware wizard

When I try to download the waypoint from Mapsource, the computer can't find my device.

I'm a dummy when it comes to this. Any help appreciated ....:rob

Just a thought, but have you stuck the computer end of the cable in a different hole? :nenau On my laptop, there are 2 holes and I get that message if I use the right hand one, but it works fine on the left hand one. Don't ask me why - it just does.

As Taff suggests, try the USB cable in another slot.

When the 'found new software' wizard starts, do you get a 'your hardware is installed and ready to use' message after a while?? That's what you're looking for....you should see it pop up in a bubble in the bottom right of the screen.

If it's not, you can go to control panel and delete anything to do with Garmin from the device manager.......or re-installing Mapsource from scratch will probably work as well.

It's odd, but it does happen sometimes:nenau

my new laptop doesn't recognise my SP3 either.

lord knows..i've left them in the room long enough..introduced them..the whole thing.

funnily enough...i walked into the room and caught my ipod trying to shag the SP3....they didn't need any introduction....:mmmm

:)

Try this:
Plug the GPS in to the PC, make sure the GPS is on.

Go to: Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / and check if the USB drivers are still installed properly for the device, anything not set up properly is easy to see, and there is an option on the devises listed to find / re install drivers, which is the fix!

Give it a try, this fix has always worked for me. I don’t know why the USB drivers drop out from time to time, and some times I even forget the fix like in a hotel in the Pyrenees last June

Thanks for your replies!

Martin, your fix did the trick!! Its working fine now. Thinking about it, my last action before it failed was to update mapsource - I wonder if that had anything to do with the drivers dropping out?

Whatever, the drivers are now updated and all is well. Much obliged, gents:beerjug: :clap :clap :clap :clap

I had to completely wipe out my previous Mapsource installation using the "Windows Install Clean Up Utility" and reinstall the latest version in order to get the USB connection to work.
