PC tries to boot to external hardrive

I'm using a WD external hard drive for backup purposes and it works fine but if I leave it connected then the next time I power up the PC it tries to boot from the external drive. I've been into the bios and set the boot priority to be the internal hard drive first but it seems to ignore that if the external is connected. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

You must have a bios option enabled for usb boot.

Which motherboard is it?

Booting off exterrnal drive

tap "F2" on booting up.
When bios screen appears, find screen with startup order & move hard disk to top of list.
Save.

Sorted thanks. It was on a page of the bios that I must have missed.
