I'm hoping to tag along to this on Sunday meeting in Buxton. Houndkirk road is a lovely wide and long trail thats great fun. I've been out with the guy a couple of times now in the Peaks and Wales and he seems pretty sensible, and is considerate of peoples experiences.

For any one NOT going to the ABR this weekend and fancies a gentle bimble round the Peak district I'll be out on Sunday 30 June.
Starting from Buxton following big bike friendly green lanes and back roads heading north to Houndkirk road then back towards Buxton.
Meet at 9.30
Sylvan car Park, Buxton SK17 6BY

Dammit - saw it too late!

Where on earth is that? The Cat n Fiddle road into the back of Buxton - the old coach road?
It's Houndkirk road, a lovely lane just east of Hathersage. On the picture below it forks off the A6187 to the North East. There is also a crossroads about 2/3rds along it which you can go left or right. Don't turn right unless you like a challenge (Jumble lane, although harder up than down).

Its worth a trip to that lane on its own, but the guy who put the route together did a fabulous job and the road work was minimal. Lunch at Yonderman's is always an experience :geek:.

The guy that organised the run goes out every couple of weeks alternating Wales and the Peaks, and seems to know a vast number of lanes. I have the tracks for this route so hoping I can convert into a GPX file to repeat it.

Thank you. If you fancy a run out give a shout. I know the Buxton golf course road, and the one from Derbyshire bridge - there is another near the petrol station at New Inns, only a short section. I can only remember a couple because most are off my patch and I never know where I am up that way!

Hi, did you ever convert it into a GPX file? I would love to do this route as I'm getting my 701 lr ready (and me) for a bit of gentle off roading to start with.

Hi @Slime Bomb

I do love the 701 or 690 and I keep looking at the offers on at the moment, obviously the LR is sadly no longer available.

I've attached the route, standard caveats apply of;
  • check route legality as this can change over time
  • 50/50 tyres as a minimum, but as always this depends on skill level and weather (I'm sure you have decent tyres on a 701, but just in case others are looking at this thread)
You can see the Houndkirk Road bit clearly that travels up towards Sheffield but the other lanes are quite 'big bike' friendly, starting in Buxton.

If you want a tag along one weekend, let me know.

Yeah, that would be great. Just got to get some tyres on and I'm set. Let me know when you're out next if you would as I'd love to tag along. Thanks, Simon.
