Ive been looking at Peli cases for the use of panniers, So far I cant work out the size I need, Im looking at somewhere between a 41 ltr and a 45 ltr. I think around the same size as the ali panniers....Hang on, I haven't even used the search button, I will be back...

1450 or 1550 I think is 20-25 Litres

so from memory a 1650 or 1850 might be the one you want, but you need to check which model is case only as some will have a rolling cage...

there's an italien case maker we've become dealers for I think they're called storm.... of something like that...

they might have a solution

Thanks for the ideas guys, my search using the " search" button came up trumps.....
I found this thread, yes I know its on an 800 but you cant have it all, good photos and good ideas for mounting, all in all a bloody good thread

Ive measured a 45 ltr givi box and the dimensions are..
500mm wide, 400 mm high , and 250mm deep

So I went on ebay and had a look at the cases that were on the 800gs in the first thread and found this...

As you can see they are just a tiny bit smaller so I would say a 41 ltr but the best thing is the price...Totally waterproof and ABS plastic, perfect just bloody perfect...Thankyou to all.....Tosh

You might want to check those dimensions again! The Duras are larger in two of the three dimensions you quoted, not smaller.

Pelican 1550's are what you are after. Had a set on my old VStrom. Buy a set of cases, a Givi rack and a hand full of u bolts. Did the trick for me!

Jay C, you are right , they are bigger but only by a couple of mm..
We shall see when they turn up through the post...

Ok, Sorry for the delay, work and life gets in the way...
So a picture speaks a thousand words..
All I can say is I have jumped up and down on these boxes an they are hard as nails..

Looks like they might hold a little more than a standard 45ltr givi box
They are a little longer
134.jpg

And just a little taller
133.jpg

And definitely thinner
132.jpg

As you can see they will reduce the width of the rear of the bike over 2x45ltr givi's
131.jpg

There are 4 locks, all are push on and take quite a pull to get them to undo

So, they are the same weight as a givi 45ltr and very very well made..
Im happy with them and when I get to put them on the bike I will post pics as well....Hope it helps...Tosh

Thanks for the comprehensive update!

They look like great value so I'm making my mind up as I type.

Volume-wise, they're smaller than the 45l Givi you compare them with (50cm x 35cm x 20cm = 35litres, IIRC from my schooldays), but they look big enough for what I need.

Whilst not wanting to dampen peoples enthusiasm for finding alternative solutions (which I applaud)... Peli cases are pretty heavy. It's true that they are amazingly sturdy and waterproof, etc - but keep in mind the potential long term stress on your rear sub-frame, especially if you load these things to the gunwales!

Ohh hell yes... I agree..Peli cases as with most cases weigh more than they should..
These cases weigh the same as the givi cases so I think they are ok..
When the givi cases are on the bike (empty) I dont notice them..
When they are full they really make the bike feel different, sluggish and heavy..But when you are touring and taking your time they are not a problem..

Provided a loaded bike doesn't exceed the manufacturers spec then it shouldn't be anymore stressful than any other system. For example 50 Kg is 50 Kg whatever it's in.
