Anyone know if there is a Tom Tom which has pencells as the battery supply.
I don't want to alter the wiring loom on the bike so thought if there is a GPS that works of pencells I can recharge them overnight and not bother with a power supply from the bike.
Any advice appreciated.

If I were you I'd fit a BM style socket then you have a wide choice of GPS units available.
The Quest has a re-chargeable battery which lasts 10 hr+ whereas my old eMap only used to last a couple of hours on two double A batteries before you need to replace them guess it depends on the model

A Garmin GpsMap 60cx/60csx will last for 20 hours on 2 high capacity Nimh AA rechargable cells.
It runs 15-20 hours on a couple of alkalene cells. Cost around 35 Eurocent a piece. Great when on vacation. About 1-2 EUR/week. NiMh is good for local riding only as I see it.

My old Garmin III+ took four AA cells at a time. A five day trip up to Scotland used 3 sets. The second set failed on the way back, just North of Glasgow in torrential rain :( I didn’t have a spare set… I wired it for bike power when I got home

Bike power is best :rob wire it direct to the battery (via an in line fuse)

Thanks for the advice chaps. Wiring into the battery might be the best solution then, with a rechargable in built.

Just need to decide on which GPS now, think they will be a popular Christmas gift item so perhaps cheaper to wait for the crazy New Year Sales that start on December the 26th....
