Beware this company. They shipped goods to me in Istanbul, with two different names on the invoices, when I'd told them what to put via an email, and so now they can't be cleared through customs. Even though this mistake was obviously their's they refuse to pay for the return of the goods and simply told me to sue them. I still intend to buy a Garmin, but I won't go anywhere near this shoddy outfit.

Sorry to hear of your probs - but isn't it strange how for every horror story theres a positive one - I've used them several times over the last few years - started when they were Sheffield GPS - and no probs. In fact when a power supply failed they replaced foc.

I don't doubt for one minute that they have happy customers, and if they'd just bothered to be willing to discuss the problem then I'd be satisfied. But they simply said this wasn't their fault, even though the paperwork they filled in is what's caused it in the first place. If there's one thing I can't abide it's people not taking responsibility. I've spoken to trading standards, who I also sent copies of the paperwork to, and they say I have a case and they will follow up once I have writen confirmation that Pentagon are refusing to reimburse me.

Pentagon

I bought a garmin unit from them (via Ebay) a couple of years ago and the power/audio lead was faulty and they wouldn't replace it. I left negative feedback for them and they left feedback for me saying I was a scammer and trying to rip them off. A letter from my solicitor eventually got the libellous feedback removed, but not before I found the email address of the MD at Pentagon Toyota and emailed him (wrote a little unix script to email him every 30 secs for a couple of days - seemed to get his attention :-) )

Personally I would eat my own spleen before I bought anything from this shoddy outfit.

...Expat,

why cant you adjust the invoice yourself and re-submit to the customs broker or whoever your using to clear the goods????

I bought a new zumo 550 from them last year...I would not touch them with a barge pole. The unit arrived and was damaged from when I opened the box, it had previously been used and damaged/dropped/cracked. They would not pay return postage costs and it was a pain to get it replaced. I tried to claim the shipping costs afterwards and they have ignored all correspondence.
I would go elsewhere.

when i spoke with Garmin about the white box versions he asked where i was thinking of buying it, I mentioned pentagon GPS and there was a long silence and mmmmmm's from the operator - he suggested i look somewhere else.

i had a look at thier ebay feedback - if someone leaves them negative feedback they dont leave feedback in return( as now they cant leave negative feedback)

STAY AWAY!

Another -ve.

I'm thinking of buying the cheapest thing I can find on their ebay site, and then leaving -ve feedback as IMO, their customer "care" attitude stinks. And BTW get anything down in writing, as I was told something that was directly contradicted by another of thier employees.

Also, if you can't get through to their non response phone line, try the car dealership as already mentioned. Using phrases like "how do I make an official" complaint seems to get a quicker response

Sorry to hear about your experiences with this company but I have bought 2x Zumo's off them over the last coupe of years and whilst I had problems with one unit twice in a year this was resolved direct through Garmin to my complete satisfaction, cheers

SO pentagon gave u great service taking your money - what service did u get from pentagon when the unit was broken?

Thought about doing that, as a publisher I've got all the software to do a pro job, but the customs guy would remember the original docs and probably get me thrown in jail!

Had the unit returned to the UK in the end, and a friend of mine will bring it out in a week or two. I decided not to return it to Pentagon as I have no faith in them at all any more. Just got back from hols so will get trading standards involved over the next week or two.

Sorry, I thought I had added a post based on my personal experience with Pentagon GPS.

As I'm getting more accustomed to site members complaining about dealers and/or services that they have availed off and been generally disatisfied with, we all I think recognise the importance of those dealers insome cases receiving recognition for their good service, if indeed it has been provided.

I, like most if not all the members here should see that there is often two sides to every story.

To answer your question, that you so aptly highlighted in the post above, Pentagon did nothing, because I went straight to Garmin, just as I would have done with any other appliance and whilst making any claim under the terms and conditions of the manufacturers warranty, like most warranty booklets will tell you to do, i.e. dealing directly with the organ grinder, and as I have previously stated to MY complete satisfaction.

I really do look forward to the day when forum subscribers can see the unbiased sincerity in others members posts and rather than attempt to discredit them add something slightly more constructive.

Bizarre, why would you do that? The responsibility to provide goods of merchantable quality is that of the retailer, not the manufacturer.
Many dodgy retailers (and I specifically include Pentagon under that definition) will tell you to contact the manufacturer when things go wrong.
If they do the best thing is to go to the credit card company who will almost always refund you without question (and chargeback the dodgy retailer)

Please accept in advance my apology for not being drawn into a futile, time wasting discussion in relation to my opinion as opposed to yours or anyone elses on a subject in a public forum designed specifically to assist and provide assistance for a group of like minded motorcyclists, with I presume the same common goal.

Again I will repeat and offer no apology to what I said in my previous post:-

"I really do look forward to the day when forum subscribers can see the unbiased sincerity in others members posts and rather than attempt to discredit them add something slightly more constructive."

oh .... well in that case i take it all back - pentagon did an absolutly bloody fantastic job and gave outstanding customer service when taking his money...... pity they appear to be feckin shite at everything else tho!

Please read and take note of my original post where I made NO personal attack on anyones personal opinion in relation to the aforementioned company.

I dearly wish subscibers of forums such as this would read, inwardly digest and recognise constructive commentating instead of writing derogatory, expletive and useless replies that in my opinion do nothing to enhance our everyday motorcycling experience.

Sorry if this reply is not plain enough!

Can't find the derogatory and expletive posts.
Useless is in the eye of the beholder.
How did your post 'enhance our everyday motorcycling experience'?
