If you look at this site (sorry, only in German) under 'spiritmesser' you will see a neat gadget that fits in-line with a petrol line, and creates flow data that can be read by any Sigma cycle computer. It can give you:
  • litres used since last fill,
  • average litres per hour
  • current litres per hour.

1) Can anyone with a better command of German than mine, tell us more about this?

2) Given that an injected system returns an amount of fuel to the tank, does anyone see a way that this could be plumbed into an injected fuel system so as to offer accurate readings?

Here 'tis:

It's unlikely to work with fuel injection as the fuel recirculates, so it might not work with the your 1100, but it would be fine for the DR.

Another problem with FI systems is the increased pressure, which would probably destroy or jam the sensor.

You would need to subtract the returned fuel from the supplied and pass the difference to the computer - not really worth the bother.

For real time fuel computation I'd go with the tried and tested Filser system.

Me and the Babelfish done our best to translate the spiritmesser pages (The Datasheet is a PDF file and mostly numbers):-
