Philippines Islands and coast tour 2027

I’ve been looking for a tour of the Philippines for some time and found a new company offering guided group tours. I’m now booked on for March ‘27. Weirdly enough, the owner is from Wigan The tour itself is really good value.

I’m looking at a few days in Manila before the tour starts. Lots of history there (They suffered appalling atrocities from the occupying Japanese in WW2) and a real foodie spot by all accounts. I’ll be doing a write up, but in the meantime, any tips from those that have been in terms of areas to stay, hidden gems etc?

Still pondering my choice of Chinese rental bike, but swaying towards the Leoncini 800 from their current list.

It was either the Philippines or Ladakh. Fair play to those that have braved the hardship of the Himalayas and now wear the t shirt, but I came to realise that I’d sooner ride in the sunshine and crash in a nice hotel with pool at my age!

Looking at their website it seems that the rentals and tours are based around southern Luzon. You can expect lots and lots of congestion, even outside the Metropolitan area, so the capabilities of a ‘big’ bike might not be tested (they do seem to offer scooters as well) Obviously tours of the island provinces are not included but you might ask about a trip/tour north into the cooler and scenic mountain areas around Baguio

On the food side don’t get your hopes too high - it consists mostly of sugar, carbs in the form of cakes and rice, and yet more sugar. BBQ suckling pig (lechon) is popular but served cold with lots of flies around it. There is however an excellent spicy hot dish called Bicol Express that is very tasty and of course the local very cold San Mig beer in sufficient quantities makes up for everything

It will be sunny and hot (30-35C) but dry in March so never order less than two beers at a time

Hi, Kritou, actually our tours are in the north of Luzon not the south. There is very little congestion and we enjoy fast scenic coastal roads and stunning mountain twisties up in the Mountain Province. We start the tours in Tagaytay, a scenic town 660m above sea level, overlooking the Taal volcanic lake. From there we head north and ride over the top of Manila via Skyway to start our adventure. Our 14 day tour takes you to the very northern tip of Luzon, visiting Aparri and Pagudpud, whilst both of our 9 day tours visit Sagada, Baguio and Vigan. We do have one new tour that heads south; from southern Luzon over to the island of Mindoro, then to the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Boracay.

As you say it will be sunny and hot on the coast, but once we get up into Mountain Province the temps will drop to about 15 or 16c at night.

To your list of culinary delights I would add Calderetta, Bulalo, Menudo, Beef Tapa, Adobo, Longganisa, Pansit, Sisig, Cispy Pata and a whole lot more delicious dishes (I didn't even mention all the fresh fish )

Now there is a Filipino delight I refuse to touch.. it's just wrong! The Red Horse on the other hand is a different story, but it packs a kick. Maybe one day we'll get to share some of these delights... take care mate and as always.. be safe.
