Phone charger to fit F800 socket...

Hi all

I'm off on a two week trip in a months time and need to explore options of keeping my mobile going...

Does anyone know of a product that conveniently fits into the socket on the F800 and charges as the bike runs?

Also need to keep my camera going too? Any chance?

Feck me ... it's not Rocket Science :blast

Get a male plug that fits the bike's socket (available from your friendly BMW dealer) and fit a car type 12v cigarette socket to the end of a bit of 12v cable. Your phone 12v charger will then fit in to that :thumb

Your bike electrics will charge the phone OK when not running without even flattening the battery ;)

Camera? ... take your normal camera battery charger with you and charge while in the hotel :thumb

Three pin plug adapters freely available everywhere :rolleyes:

Camping? ... then the campsite will plug in for you ... or while in the pub/bar just sit somewhere near a mains supply and plug in while you eat and drink :eek:

I got the POwer

Like its been said I have the short lead made up and attached to my tank bag got the plug from dealership and 12v car socket from halfords, to charge phone and Ipod, and the camera I have a spare so I take two fully charged which lasts 1- 2 weeks for me (easily got from Jessops or similar) so I do not take any mains Chargers or think about it as i have all the power I need = less kit on the bike :D it works for me

This years trip i'm only taking summer gear and some light weight gortex camo for an over rain suit amazing how you can stream line what you need :D i probably only need 1 pannier but It would look odd and might make me ride in circles, probably get stuck on a roundabout :blast or the M25 :eek:
 
Maplin do a lead already made up with the dinky plug on one end and a 'normal' ciggy socket on the other. Perfect length to reach a tank bag, and of course you can then charge you phone or whatever from the safety of your tank bag.

Just remember that you can't charge anything when the ignition is off as the socket cuts out after a minute of so.

I've run a lead through to the tail connected directly to the battery (via a fuse) so I can charge the bike battery, or charge things from it without needing the ignition on.

You could fit a conventional socket as well as the Hella socket...

If you lift the 'tank' cover you'll see that there's a place on the other side of the DIN socket ready to accept another socket. Just make an opening of the right diameter (I heated up a 19mm socket IIRC) where the marking is, install the socket and either connect it to the power supply for the DIN socket, or direct to the battery (don't forget an in-line fuse though)... If you're feeling really adventurous, you could use the supply from the DIN socket to trigger a 12v switching relay to control a higher current (still fused though!) outlet which is still switched on and off by the canbus controlled DIN socket...

While you're at it, use the relay to control the power feed to a Centech aux fuse panel then you'll have all the spare power outputs you'll ever need!

Maplins do a waterproof standard sized socket that is pretty easy to install.

On the fake tank there is a second spot for another socket next to the original one. Just drill/file this out and the new socket slots easily in. Wire this directly to the battery and not the canbus system.

Ill take some pics tonight if you want.

Check either a caravan shoppe or a yacht chandler... Mine is a SUTARS socket and cost me a whole £4.50 IIRC.,..

Yes there are pics somewhere - at the moment I'm on hols in deepest Burgundy, malheuresement sans moto, but it necessary I can get pics organised when I get home.
