Phone mount instead of Sat Nat?

That’s what I use yes. I like Garmin, but the Nav units are not the best in my opinion, being slow and out of date mapping wise as soon as they are updated. The issues linking them into the TFT/phone/helmet are well documented and they are also expensive. They do have the benefit of being glove friendly, but I can live without that. Plenty of bikes gloves have screen friendly fingers now, or you can use a stylus.

I use my phone as has Google Maps, Waze and Scenic loaded into it as well as OS Maps so I can choose my mapping depending on what I am doing. The traffic is also bang on, especially from Waze. The WunderLINQ always me to navigate around the screen using the wonder wheel when I need to. By not having the Garmin unit included, it’s one less bit of kit for the flakey TFT software to deal with! It’s expensive, but so is the Nav 6.

Here's my quadlock set up for my phone.

That's very neat, but why not remove the NAV mount entirely? Unless of course you want to be able to still use the NAV instead of the phone sometimes.

I've now changed to an RS, but this was my GS setup, with the phone powered by a 12V to USB converter connected to the otherwise redundant satnav power connector on the bike:

I fitted a Nexus 7 tablet in a waterproof case to my Hexhead,

The screen size was fantastic, & battery life was good, I was running Tom Tom & Spotty

it got 10 miles from dent from the south coast before the battery went

( my din USB charger wasn't working properly)

I've now bought a Galaxy tab active which dosent need a case, i'm just waiting for the dedicated offset mount & shade to arrive

This will allow the tab to sit over where the current oem mount is.

all i need then is a suitable long distance destination ;)

I've just come up with a plan for the days I want to use the phone instead of the TomTom.

There's a lad on ebay selling a cover for the TomTom mount (to protect the electrical pins) when you have removed the nav.

Quadlock do a self adhesive mount for flat surfaces...........attach this to the TomTom cover and use a Quadlock case (or universal connector) for your phone.

Genius...

Mic drop.....

Walk out.
