Got roped in last weekend as Official Photographer for a charity netball tournament Mrs Yoda helped organise.

Rather than laboriously email the photos to each team, I thought I'd stick 'em onto a photo repository website and simply send them a link.

So I'd welcome advice on something that's:-

  • free
  • can be controlled by a password that I can email out with the link (well, I wouldn't want a bunch of tossers looking at sweaty young ladies wearing short skirts now would I? :augie)

Hmmmm womens net ball :augie

I think only fair that any advice should be given in exchange for the web address of said pics :D:D

Obviously purely for out of interest about your photography skill:augie

Picassa

Yoda,

I looked at a few options for this recently and found them all pretty good but liked the performance of Picassa and the fact that uploading was simple.

I tried www.putfile.com and unlike photobucket , where you have to upload each picture individually , on putfile you can upload a whole folder of piccies in one go which might make it easier for you.

Also putfile loads the shots a lot quicker than photobucket. Howver for posting shots on here photobucket works better because the image size is larger.

Yoda,

its not free but www.smugmug.com is what I use. You can load whole folders if you want too but what I really like is there is no spam, people who want to look at the photos don't have to register and you upload the originals so if anyone wants to download them they can get at the original in all or its glory, or smaller versions if they want.

I like putfile, very responsive but yes wish you could link the photos out in a larger size etc, still can't believe it's free :D

Another vote for smugmug, I have the pro level account which allows more functionality, but even at the basic level its very customizable, password protected galleries if you want as well, good for kids photos

and if you download the 'send to smugmug' app its very easy to upload big batches/ folders

for hosting images for use on here etc they have a choice of linked image sizes, the medium one is good for here, and the thumbnail is good for avatars, no more resizing images!

feel free to use my code ymfzdgSoxhgmk to save yourself $5 dollars on the fee,

oh and they also do printing, takes about a week from the USA, but the results are very impressive

Flickr is also an excellent site. The basic free account enables you to upload a single album. A cheap upgrade enables unlimited albums, you can mark them private or public and with the Flickr uploader you can simply drag pics into it for uploading batches at a time.

To close the loop, square the circle and confuse some more metaphors........eventually went for Flickr. Mainly 'cos the girlies liked the presentation style. :blast

Went for the £12.50 (ie $25) Pro upgrade as I've now used it for six other albums I did for people.

'Tis jolly, jolly good. :thumb2
