Photos from 10,741 Km Ride this summer

A very interesting 2013 for some of you guys. If you're thinking of having someone along I'd be very interested. Had to pull out of doing this years trip with Walter & Terry but still itching to get out that way before the BAM becomes impossible. Oh - and the Vitim bridge too!!!

Peak - there's a ferry from Magadan to Vlad. Not really officially for bikes but there's a good contact in Vlad that will probably be able to score a ride "off the books" on this ferry. I'll try to find his details from my prep and PM you if interested. Also the biker club in Magadan will be able to help with this I would imagine.

Well that is the million dollar question!

I'm going to pack work in and the plan is to have six months traveling. What I wanted to do, and I'm trying to figure out if this is feasible, is...

Get to Magadan via Kazakh and Mongolia then I'm trying to see if there's a shipping agent who'll take the bike to Vladivostok so I can ride it back home. I have heard on the HUBB that it is doable. I want to head back and then spend a bit of time in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. A friend of mine has just shipped out of Vlad and has a contact there that I'm trying

I looked at this myself and it is possible to ship (via ship:D) to Vlad. I was in contact with an agent in Magadan who could arrange it. It takes 6 days and its not normally possible to travel with the bike. Bribery may come into play here with the captain, or just take a flight to Vlad. I can't remember how much it cost but don't think it was very expensive....a few hundred dollars, something like that. Can't remember if crating was required.

If your taking 6 months, you may as well pop over to the smaller Stan's as well while you are at it. However, watch your timing. If you are planning to ride back I would think that you need to be in Magadan no later than end August, maybe even earlier.

Will be 2014 for me, probably, but happy not to travel solo.

I'm at work at the moment but I'll fire you a PM tomorrow. TBH I'm cool about traveling on my own but I would prefer someone on a trip like this :thumb2

Word of warning. I am also happy to travel alone BUT, on this sort of trip, especially if you intend to explore rather than stay on main routes, you really do need someone (or a spare bike:eek:) with you.

Thanks rossi. DO you remember the size of the standard seal you mention? Also, where is this viton rubber available?

No problem.

The O ring for the lock barrel came free from a friendly mechanic at a local garage. He just pulled one from his selection pack that was the same size and material (at least we assumed it was as he had some green ones the same colour as the original).

The viton came from Zoe (I think) at RHNuttall. Send them an email and they will send you an offcut from the end of a roll. Cost me £10 for 2 sheets, 2mm and 3mm, each one big enough to cut 2 seals. Turned out the 2mm was perfect so I have enough left for another seal next time it starts to leak. I reckon the £10 was just to cover the admin and postage so you could try asking for a larger sheet which would give spare for anybody else. To cut to shape I drew the circle with a set of compasses and cut with a stanley knife. A little untidy at the edges but nobody sees and it works perfectly.
