I am looking at some software to tweak up my photographs. I wondered about photoshop?
I do not want anything to demanding as in the end i think you can just get tied up in Knots.
A decent but straight forward piece of software. Any reccommendations :thumb

NOT photoshop.....the learning curve will be very very steep.

You may find that you already have a prog on your pc....right click on an image, select 'open with' and tell us what pops up ........if 'Microsoft Photo Editor' does, try that first....it's pretty good for what you need ;)

Have to agree with Fanum ... Adobe photoshop is (arguably) the best on the market ... but it is also far more than 99% of people will want or need... Microsoft photo editor will fix all of the normal problems you would find from using a digital camera such as red eye reduction, colour adjustment, contrast and brightness...

HERE is a link to the Adobe online store... the price will freighten the pants off you (but you could photoshop them back on later)

Photoshop is certainly wonderfull and though there are plenty of books and online tutorials available it's just too much for simple photo tweaking. I'd recomend Adobes Photoshop Elements (now at version 3 for PC/Mac) which has much of the practical functionality of photo retouching that the full PS does but in a more accessible format. You can download a trial of Elements which will give you a flavour of the product. Try the healing brush just once and you will be hooked.

Nikon Capture editor has some very easy to use features. I use that when I cant be bothered to do battle with Photoshop

I agree with what's been said previously about Photoshop, but if you do go down that route you'll very likely need some form of "education" on using it. I certainly never found it very intuitive to start with.
A good source for "education" are some of the magazines which have a CD attached. A good example is Digital Photo magazine which is split between Photoshop (both CS and Elements) techniques and digital camera related equipment. It comes with a CD attached and lessons on that are usually very good. There is also generally some restatement of the basics in each copy.
Once you've mastered the basics things start to slot into place so if you can get over the initial learning curve the rewards are great... from my perspective I think that Photoshop CS is probably the best bit of software I've ever used.

surprised no-one's mentioned that photoshop is over 600 quid

paint shop pro is ok at about £60.

PSP is the best home user image package in my opinion. Very simple to use, it only has what you need but it all works very well. It loads fast and works fast. A useful extra it has is a batch converter. You got a pile of huge(kb) tiff files you want to mail to a relo? easy, batch convert to jpg format :thumb

Dell's paint shop 4 is what i have at the moment and irfanview (great freebie).

But it seems just a little basic for me. but thanks for the suggestions :thumb

Photoshop Elements - My recommendation - Used for ages now - Photoshop uber package, too much and too expensive unless its your business.
