PIAA Cross Country HID Kit for F800 GS

Anyone tried these HID auxiliary lights?

I looked at HID50's (Les) kits and they look great. But Delivery to Caracas from the US would be much easier than form the UK.

By the way, price is $595 for two auxiliary HIDs, wiring harness & F800 GS mounting brackets, from F800Depot.

PIAA has the HID lamps listed @ $470. This would not include mounting brackets. So simple math puts the brackets @ $125.

Any options you suggest?

I think upgrading the main lights to HID would be better. Then add some low 10-20W Side-driving lights for more visibilty for rear-view checking drivers.

I'm going with this plan on my F8GS;

Garmin Zumo 660 + Touratech 660 lockable mount
HID x2 kit with LED (maybe single HID + Led sidelight)
E-system Scottoiler + the Dual injector
Pair of rear LED brake light's (added to pannier boxes or frame)
Possible Radar detector kit
Phone waterproof mount
ContourHD camera or other camera system.

I saw pics of HID upgraded lights alone and standard lights with additional HID auxiliary lights... The second seemed brighter and wider

I have les Walsall, sorry if spelt wrong, HID 50 X 2 fitted to the Dip and Main Beam on my F800 GS and can honestly say it is the way to go, 2nd WW search lights are dimmer!

You can get the lights from PIAA for $470 and the mounts from Twisted Throttle for 19.95

I'm thinking about converting both my and my wife's F800GS "high" beam to 35W HIDs. Have you had any issues with heat inside the housing?

As I understand it, there is less heat with the HIDs, not more. Think about it - the original bulbs (in the UK, anyway) are 55w and you're replacing those with something using roughly 70% of the power - and they're brighter, so less of the power is being converted into heat anyway.

Fitting Hid Kit

Hi Blobby and all

I rode to work today, the first time at night as I start at dark o'clock.
I have Les HID 50 Watt kit on both dip and main.
Absolutely amazing and no need for any additional lights at all. The only thing I can recommend is that you ensure your headlight alignment is correct after fitment as to not annoy other motorists.
As for fitting the kit, it is a doddle. Les's ballasts are very slimline so I "tucked" mine inside the side panel and held it with two cable ties. The actual "bulb" fitment is just a matter of connecting the two plugs which cannot be fitted the wrong way round then instant " light cannons!"
One further point. My best friend and I icked up our bikes the same day from Jefferies in Shipley. Phil has no HID and he has mentioned how other traffic easily sees me during the day making "I didn't see you mate" less likely.
