Picking up Anniversary R1200GS on Saturday

Hi All,

I just thought that I would say hi to everyone. I'm picking up a R1200GS 30th Anniversary at the weekend and really looking forward to it. Replacing a FZS1000 for a 60 mile commute which will be growing to 90miles next year, so planning on getting some miles on it! I would ask about spotlight options, but perhaps I'll keep that to myself for now

I thought about a GSA, would have liked the extra range, but I was just worried that the extra weight and width would make it tricky in city traffic commuting. I thought I'd start with the GS and see if I really liked it first.

It's not new, 3900 miles on it and 9 months old.

I didn't realise the GSA was wider, I thought the handlebars were the same width?

I nearly qualified that comment in my original post by saying that the extra width was probably all imaginary! I mean that the "body" of the bike feels wider.

Seemingly, like you I also have a 3 series but mine is only the 335

Hi cbenson99. I too am gettin my new GS this Sat. Only 2 more sleeps Let us know how you get on with it. I am havin to get mine delivered, cause I am strugglin to get a lift to the dealers. Just as well really, cause looking at some of the comments on this forum, I would be lucky to get home without it blowin up, sumthin droppin of, electrics packin up, or the drive shaft seizin Enjoy it mate, its Christmas come early for us.

The bike gets better as more miles are put on, mine seemed to be much better when i got over 9k on it Enjoy your new bike

I've had five 1150s, they all improved steadily with use then made a step change (for the better) at 17,000 miles - just before the third service. I consider them run-in at that point

Curious to see if my new 1200 does the same

Unfortunately the M3's had to go due to the recession hitting my business I do still have a 3 series though, I traded the M3 in for an Alpina D3 (yes it's a diesel )

The "body" of the bike IS wider but makes no difference squeezing through traffic as the widest part is the bars so if they go through the rest goes through. I'm sure some people may find the extra height and weight, and less agility more difficult for filtering through traffic. I personally don't have an issue as I'm a pretty big guy so can easily man-handle the GSA

Just got my 2009 GSA!! Delivered an hour ago!!! Was getting ready for a ride and then it started pissing it down!!! Oh well, another day!

I have a Givi Maxia top box but I'm not sure that it matches the bike. Is the only option BMW's vario top box? Quite fancy a more "adventure" looking one!

Looks like you can get the adventure luggage to fit the GS
