Not sure but wondering if that bird was a Lamergier (spelling?), any experts on site to advise.

I am no expert but I suspect it is a griffon vulture. Ugly as f*** on the ground but as graceful as an eagle when in flight with its neck tucked in !

Great photo's... thanks for sharing.

Busy packin'... on the ferry Sunday with Sue (Gracie) and a couple of others, ride down through France... to the Picos :thumb

Now can't wait ya bugger :D

Picos 2008, in the footsteps of Bateman

'ello everyone!

My other half is going to Portugal with the nags next summer, and with all these lovely reports of trips through the Picos I thought it would be the done thing to take the GS on a little jolly through that region and meet her in Portugal. However, holiday time being the limiting factor as always, I'd like to skip France and take the boat to Santander, but the crossings alone with Brittany Ferries look to be more expensive than Mr. Bateman's entire trip.

Could some kind soul please point me in the right direction for getting a good deal, ideally with linky-linky?

Muchos Wossname,

Well I've just booked me and the missus on the Santander ferry with outside cabin, return trip at end of May, plus 3 nights in hotel with breakfast for £450 via the Brittany ferries website here...

I thought it was good value, considering the cost inc ferry with cabin and hotel. Obviously it'll cost more later in the year, but seemed fair enough to me :nenau

That doesn't sound too bad; you could spend that much if you were to travel down the equivalent distance through France quite aside from the additional time it would take, but I think the time of year is, as you say, going to work against me.

Just so that I can get a like-for-like comparison, what's the ref number of the hotel you're staying at? For some reason I can never get the same rate as is often quoted in other people's threads... :nenau

We're staying in the Hotel Del Oso (recommended many times by others on this forum, so I hope is as nice as it sounds :)). The ref num on the Brittany Ferries site for the Hotel is HS0174.
Remember, you're bound to get a higher price than we paid if you're going later in the year.
Also, I found that if I chose a 2 berth outside cabin both ways, it worked out more expensive than booking a 4 berth :nenau. Needless to say I booked the 4 berth :beerjug:

I got this deal by phoning Brittany Holidays and talking through the whole thing with the guy on the phone - because we booked a holiday (ie ferry and hotel), the 4 berth cabin was free so we just paid for a triple room plus 3 motorcycle returns. then split the total 3 ways. I believe there is still 15% off the holidays at the moment until jan 31.
