Just got my hands on my new 12 1200GS I am looking for some advice on where to locate a Fuzeblock AND Autocom. I have given up on any notion of saving the tool tray for (what BMW call) a tool kit, but even with that sacrifice The Fuzeblock and Autocom won't seem to fit without major surgery to the tray and possibly losing the power socket. Haven't even considered where to put the blootooth dongle and jack lead isolator yet.

(Currently standard seat in low position with Low Sargent seat on order).

Any pictures of inspiration or location of a Tardis I haven't found.

Thanks
Robert

have you looked underneath the tool tray ?, theres some space there i'm sure, should be 2 screws that you remove and the tray lifts up, what are you thinking of wiring that you need a fuseblock for rather than an in line fuse.:hide

Doesn't fit.

I originally thought the Fuzblock might go under the tray and the Autcom on it, but that odd shaped under tray space isn't big enough. Heated jacket, sat nav, USB, charger, lights, etc. all to go on in the near future so I need the Fuzeblock.

Well I think the fuzblock needs to go in the tooltray, the autocom im sure someone will be along shortly. good luck with it.

OK well I have both the Fuzebox and Autocom Active plus under the seat.

I have screwed the Fuzebox to the tool tray towards the aux socket side, and cut away the base of the tray on the other side where the socket is NOT to allow the autocom to be slotted in vertically, with some velcro on the back to secure. This also allows the spare cable for the autocom to be fitted under the tray.

I have taken the switched input for the relay from the "GPS socket" behind the oil cooler, using a plug to avoid breaking into the wiring loom.

It works really well and will post some pictures if I can find them......my bike is in the dealer for a new alternator (add that to the list of known failures!) if I an find the photos I'll post tonight but I won't be picking the bike up until 5 August.......

I have a photo, but can't figure how to attach from my iPad.....PM me with email address for a quick delivery......I'll post here later......

fuseblock and autocom

fitted my fuseblock below the tool tray under the seat and wired the switching supply relay to the aux socket via an adapter/splitter part from BMW so no splicing of cables.
I fitted my starcom digital (not sure if its the same size as an autocom?)
under the petrol tank
remove the left side covers as if you are fitting an accelerator module and there is a small hollow in front of the air filter box.
bit hard to discribe really but you will see the space when you take off the panels.
my starcom fits nicely in there.
then fitted my kenwood radio in the tool tray (as detailed by Skipper of this parish :bow) above the fuse block.
and it all fits very nicely onto my 2010 GSA
my wiring is embarisingly shoddy (hence no photos) but given a bit of patient wire routing and tie wraping etc you should be able to do a nice neat job.:thumb2
unlike mine:blast

Options

Thanks for the thoughts.

The options seem to be:

1. Both Fuzeblock and Autocom in the tool tray (MadMac). I have uploaded his pic below. This means a) losing the tooltray and b) cutting the tool tray. Pretty dry spot though, I see just a little overspray there after 300k in the wet.

2. Fuzeblock in the tray and autocom under tank in front of airbox (APW). Issue here is access to the Autocom unit becomes a bit difficult.

3. Autcom on the tool tray and fuzeblock behind tank in the document holder spot (warmshed) or vice versa. The picks for this show an earlier version of the bike, not sure which one, and there is less space there on the 10-12 1200GS. However I think it will fit. Issue here is that this location is completely open to the elements and rain can fall straignt down on it. The autcom units are "splash proof" to a certain extent, but not waterproof.

Decisions, decisions!

I am ruling out option 2 only because I would like easier access to the Autocom unit.

Option 3 is very attractive and might be a neater install. Option 1 does however have the advantage that I could add a radio in the document holder spot at a later time.

I think option 3 wins. Any other thoughts before I get the dremel out over the weekend are welcome!
