Had to upgrade the operating system on the Ipad, I tried everything to avoid it but in the end it was the only way to recover it, however I am now stuck with IOS 6.1, what a load of shite, so much to dislike about the way it looks I dont know where to start however I have lost google maps which was the one app I was holding onto IOS 5 for !!!!
Anyone suggest an app that is a replacement? there is no ipad version of google maps, if you use the phone version its pixilated, the apple is crap, and doesent do street view.

Need somthing to tie me over till I can out the ipad and get somthing android, I have fecking had it with apple.

May not be of much help but on my android I used the webpage to get to GMaps (I also have the Maps app now). Perhaps you can get to the mapping function as a webpage?

I believe the ipad version of google maps is yet to be released.

Google Maps ...

... iPad version works fine with OS6.1 on mine :nenau

The phone app works just fine on the iPad. Some of the ui is a bit bigger than it needs to be in 2x mode, but its definitely not pixelated, iOS scales up the drawing of views very nicely.

Once the iPad version is released it is bound to use the space better, but its basically good as it stands on the phone version.

Feck me ...

No such thing as Google Maps for iPad

... I've been had ! Ok, I've got a version of Google maps on my iPad that works perfectly with OS 6.1, but its not on my iPhone :blast

does a hard reset not recover it to factory with ios 5 ???

nope it recovers it to the latest verison of the IOS.

I have installed the gmaps for Iphone which works it dosent look good but works, looks like a modified google earth, being the phone version it dosent use the ipad screen to best advantage.

I am sure its supposed to be an improvement but for the life of me I can't see how.

I find the whole constant need to upgrade a real pain, so much so I have had it with apple and I am just going to bin the pad, I much prefer the android my wife uses, I was only keeping it for a few apps which are now available with android anyway.
The Ipad was light years ahead of the opposition, but I think they have now lost that, all of the improvements in the latest vesion are not improvements for me, and the disadvantages are now outnumbering the advantages.

The biggest annoyance with the lack of a Google Maps app for iPad was the damage it's done to so many apps that relied on it. Ie Rightmove, Around Me, etc.

Fortunately some have cheated and used the iPhone API to restore the link to Google in the iPad. Rightmove have recently upgraded and Streetview is now available again. The Apple 3D view is the biggest joke in mapping that I've ever seen and Apple should hide their heads in shame.

Bowser is right about the opposition catching up. The screen on my Galaxy S2 is light years ahead of the iPhone 5 even without the retina display, and there are now very few apps that are not available on Android. I will be sticking with my iPad2 as I can't afford to change, but when the time does come the iPad won't be the automatic choice of a replacement.

WoW,people having a dig at Apple not Ms,i'm stunned,WoW:P

Not from me, I love my Apple stuff. Have people really forgotten the constant upgrades needed with MS, the bloated software and antivirus needed to keep it safe, the shared DLL files etc, etc :blast

Google maps on the iPhone is excellent and it will be sorted for the mapping on the iPad.

for me the problem is not the need to update its the fact that if you do, stuff is changed or removed and there is no way to re install it. I had the VLC player which is no longer on the app store, so its gone and I cant re install it, at least with MS you could put an older version back on again.

I'm no Apple hater. Have iMac, iPad, iPhone 3GS, but not a "fanboy". Waiting to see if the next iPhone will have a decent screen and sensible price and I might consider changing, but it will have to be better than current Galaxy range.

if you've backed your ipad up to either your pc or icloud, VLC will be in itunes to reinstall to the ipad.

Can you not grab it from iCloud, under the purchased section in the App store? (I don't know, its just a suggestion)

AVplayer is a viable alternative

edit: great minds cookie :)
